Scanning the Charts β Billboard 200 & Hot 100 (1/23/21): Morgan Wallen debuts atop the Billboard 200 with Dangerous: The Double Album.
SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. To reiterate what I said last week ( Taylor Swift Spends 3rd Week at No. 1 with Evermore), this column wonβt be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that
moving. This week, I picked out FIVE notable observations
from the Billboard 200
, and FIVE observations
from the Billboard Hot 100
, with
Morgan Wallen debuting in commanding fashion atop the Billboard 200 with
Dangerous: The Double Album.
Billboard 200
As expected, Morgan Wallen easily debuts atop the Billboard 200 with his sophomore album,
Dangerous: The Double Album. Per Keith Caulfield of Billboard, Wallen moved a robust 265,000 units, in addition to becoming the rare country album to debut at no. 1 in recent times.
After reclaiming the no. 1 spot last week,
Taylor Swift sees
Evermore slip to no. 2. Donβt feel too sorry for Ms. Swift, who had one heck of a successful year in 2020 β understatement.
After a six-year hiatus,
Jazmine Sullivan not only released a comeback album,
Heaux Tales (itβs EP depending on who you ask, despite being 14 tracks/32 minutes long), but also debuts at no. 4, the first top-five album of her career.
Barry Gibb, the sole remaining Gibb brother, debuts at no. 15 on the Billboard 200 with
Barry Gibb & Friends: Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook
Paul McCartney sees
McCartney III just hang on to a spot on the charts. In its fourth week, McCartney III freefalls from no. 90 to no. 200. Ouch!
Billboard Hot 100
Olivia Rodrigo debuts at no. 1 on the Hot 100 with
βDrivers Licenseβ, a record that earned a ton of buzz.
After returning to no. 1 for two consecutive weeks,
24kGoldn and
iann dior fall to no. 2 with their dominant hit single,
βMood.β
Expectedly,
Morgan Wallen earns some debuts on the Hot 100 including
βWasted on Youβ (no. 9),
βSand in My Bootsβ (no. 32), and
βWarningβ (no. 42).
Saweetie and
Doja Cat debut at no. 39 with their friendship-themed collaboration,
βBest Friendβ.
Jazmine Sullivan debuts at no. 95 with βPick Up Your Feelings,β one of the best songs from her comeback project,
Heaux Tales.
