1. Justin Timberlake, Man of the Woods

RCA

Justin Timberlake, Man of the Woods © RCA“I think the album has a wide range of sonics to it, but, I guess I would describe it as modern Americana with 808s.” Justin Timberlake lays claim to arguably the most highly anticipated album of February, Man of the WoodsAs aforementioned, Timberlake describes Man of the Woods as a modern Americana album.

While promo singles “Filthy” and “Supplies” don’t feel Americana or country in the least, final advance single “Say Something,” featuring Chris Stapleton, fits the bill. The follow-up to The 20/20 Experience (2013) is comprised of 16 tracks.  In addition to a guest appearance by Stapleton, Alicia Keys guests on the album’s eighth song, “Morning Light.”

2. AWOLNATION, Here Come the Runts

Comprised of 14 tracks, singles “Passion”, “Miracle Man,” “Handyman,” and “Seven Sticks of Dynamite” were issued in advance of the album.

3. Dashboard Confessional, Crooked Shadows

Fueled by Ramen

Dashboard Confessional, Crooked Shadows © Fueled by RamenAs hard as it is to believe (at least for those of us whose musical heyday was primarily the 00s), Dashboard Confessional frontman Chris Carrabba is approaching his 43rd year. Personally, the last Dashboard Confessional album that found a home in my collection was 2006’s Dusk and Summer, which included the single, “Don’t Wait.” The last album released by the band prior to their 2018 comeback album Crooked Shadows was Alter the Ending, released in Fall 2009.  That’s an eight-year gap between full-length projects. While Crooked Shadows is considered full-length, it’s only comprised of nine songs, including advance singles “We Fight” and “Heart Beat Here.” Featured guests include Lindsey Stirling (“Open My Eyes”) and Chrissy Costanza (“Just What to Say”).
