Coming off from the terrific “Tongue,” rising British pop star MNEK strikes gold once more with “Colour,” featuring rising US actress-singer Hailee Steinfeld.

MNEK came out swinging in 2018 with his single “Tongue”.  To tell you how good “Tongue” is, it earned a top-20 spot in the 50 Best Songs of 2018 (So Far).  And to think, the British pop musician came into my life via the Spotify New Music Friday playlist, sigh.  Now the 23-year old returns with a new single, “Colour,” featuring Hailee Steinfeld.  Perhaps Out Magazine pens it best: “MNEK’s New Queer Anthem With Hailee Steinfeld is What You Need Right Now.”

“Colour” is all about love, and it makes you smile as you listen.  MNEK presents the chorus upfront, poetically singing to his love, “Before you came into my life / Everything was black and white / Now all I see is colour… / You bring colour to my life, baby.”  On the first verse, he expounds upon the love and completion he now feels. Notably, his voice sounds beautiful. Following the pre-chorus, he’s joined by Hailee Steinfeld on the chorus.  On the second verse, Steinfeld takes the reins, singing about the how colorful life is now thanks to love.

“Like red and yellow and pink and green

That’s what I see when you’re here with me

Everything is brighter ‘cause the limit is the sky

Baby, that’s the way you make me feel…”

Both sing on the second pre-chorus, sometimes separately and sometimes together, with similar action occurring on the chorus.  MNEK closes out with the outro.

Final Thoughts 

Following up “Tongue” is a tall task – it’s that great of a record.  MNEK assisted by Hailee Steinfeld doesn’t do shabby in the least on “Colour.”  Both artists bring their vocal ‘A game,’ painting a bright, colorful backdrop marvelously.  MNEK really shines like a beacon when he ascends into his upper register – what a talented rising artist.
