“Out on a date just to follow my dirty mind…” WOO! Hmm, it seems like Berlin-based, openly gay repatriate 🎙 MKSM (Maksim) is totally giving NSA on his single 🎵 “Breaking My Rules”. Early on in this sexy song about a boy (ah, we love boys), he is changing his perspective on romance versus sex – breaking his rules! We can gather that MKSM is typically a hopeless romantic, seeking love.  But, instead, he’s changing course this time around: “Crossing my line thinking it’ll all turn our right.” Throughout “Breaking My Rules,” MKSM is incredibly relatable in his pursuit for affection, whether that is the empty sex touted here, or, perhaps what he truly wants deep down inside, a committed relationship.

MKSM doesn’t want to hurt anybody, admittedly, “But I love the fact that you want me.” Being wanted makes anybody feel good, even if that person is or isn’t the right one for us.  This being wanted, of course, draws the talented singer back into potential feelings, something he’s trying to rein in.  With the feels out of it, he makes it clear, “I don’t want someone to hold my hand / Boy, I just want you to understand / I know I’m breaking my rules, I’m breaking my rules tonight.” With gay men, friends with benefits and meaningless hookups aren’t far-fetched.  Those experiences are easy ones.  However, when feelings come into play, developing a meaningful relationship, that’s far more complicated – more difficult to navigate.  The slickly produced 🎵 “Breaking My Rules” does a fine job of titillating with its sensual vibes (inoffensively, I might add), while also still debating something of more substance beyond fooling around.  Will MKSM reinstate his rules? Should he just hit it and quit it? Food for thought.
