Mike Shinoda, Post Traumatic © Warner BrosMike Shinoda continues to build anticipation for his full-length solo album, ‘Post Traumatic’ with well-rounded single “Running from my Shadow” featuring grandson.

“There’s an elephant sitting in the room / And I can’t find another way to tiptoe around it.”  Mike Shinoda, an integral part of Linkin Park, drops his first full-length solo album attributed to his name.  Post Traumatic arrives June 15, 2018.  In advance of Post Traumatic, Shinoda dropped the Post Traumatic EP (“Place to Start,” “Over Again,” and “Watching as I Fall”), as well as a number of individual singles including “Crossing a Line,” “Nothing Makes Sense Anymore,” “About You” and our song at hand, “Running from my Shadow.”

Like most music that’s associated with Mike Shinoda, the production work is a huge selling point. There is an array of synths – some harder and others more enigmatic.  Additionally, there’s a confident, hard-hitting beat that anchors “Running from my Shadow.” The sound and the vibe of this record are locked in from the start – there’s no doubt whatsoever. An energetic backdrop goes a long way, right? Right.

“I’ve been doing greater good for a long time

But I can’t find any other way to give now…”

Mike Shinoda matches the energy and intensity of the production, with honest, tough, and passionate rhymes.  Essentially, he raps about running from some of his own issues – sacrificing his own well-being for others.  He continues, “I been putting myself on the sideline / And it’s been time so I’m saying I live now.” Alternative Grandson assists him on chorus, the centerpiece of the record, later handling the bridge.

Final Thoughts

Once again, Mike Shinoda delivers.  “Running from My Shadow” offers the full package: great production, honest, tough rhymes, a thoughtful message, and a guest appearance that accentuates and contributes to the soundness of the record. Bring on Post Traumatic!
