Welcome to Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹, a column that seeks to highlight songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity.ย  Featured songs arenโ€™t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better โ€“ be LIFTED to new heights!ย  So, for the 51st edition of Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹ (2023), we highlight ๐ŸŽต โ€œEverybody Ought To Praise His Nameโ€ as performed by ๐ŸŽ™ Mighty Clouds Of Joy.

Mighty Clouds of Joy, Cloudbust [๐Ÿ“ท: Curb / Word Entertainment]โ€œOh, I woke up early this morning / My heart was beating right on time / I said, Lord, I truly thank you / For opening up these eyes of mine.โ€ Yes, yes, yes ๐Ÿ™Œ! ย Truthfully, as humans, we take for granted so much in life, such as waking up in the morning.ย  Sometimes, it takes sickness or, even worse, death, to remind us that life is fleeting and not promised. According to the legendary gospel quartet, ๐ŸŽ™ Mighty Clouds Of Joy, ๐ŸŽต โ€œEverybody Ought To Praise His Nameโ€. His, of course, is The Man upstairs โ€“ G-O-D ๐Ÿ™Œ!

โ€œEverybody Ought To Praise His Nameโ€ is a groovy highlight from one of the quartetโ€™s best albums, ๐Ÿ’ฟ Cloudburst, released in 1980. โ€œEverybodyโ€ is an exuberant, joyful, and spirited record focused on praise and being truly thankful for Godโ€™s goodness.ย  The most memorable section of the record is the chorus, led by the titular lyric. Perhaps the most thoughtful lyric is about a robin:

โ€œEverybody ought to praise his name

Be thankful and praise his name

Everybody ought to praise his name

โ€˜Cause if a robin can say, thank you

You can do it too.โ€

balancing a barbell on fingerThe robin isnโ€™t merely mentioned in the chorus, but also the verses. โ€œA robin was singing a song / I donโ€™t know what he was singing,โ€ ๐ŸŽ™ Joe Ligon sings, adding, โ€œWho can say he wasnโ€™t being grateful / And saying thank you for another day.โ€ He has a legitimate point.ย  The big takeaway from ๐ŸŽต โ€œEverybody Ought To Praise His Nameโ€ is to count your blessings โ€“ donโ€™t take them for granted!ย  That, in itself, can apply to anyone, whether they believe in absolutely nothing. And, if you do happen to be a believer, praise Him, God, for everything He has done ๐Ÿ™Œ.
