Meg Myers, Take Me to the Disco [PHOTO CREDIT: 300 Entertainment]Tennessee alternative musician Meg Myers superbly builds anticipation for her sophomore album, ‘Take Me to the Disco,’ with energetic promo single, “Numb.”

Back in 2013, I was first acquainted with Meg Myers– musically that is.  A review of her EP, Daughter in the Choir, appears on Brent Music Reviews (three years before the inception of The Musical Hype). Alas, that was the last time that a Myers project experienced my opinion. The alternative artist from Tennessee would go on to release her full-length, debut album, Sorry, in 2015.  Now nearly three years later, Myers prepares her sophomore album, Take Me to the Disco, which arrives via 300 Entertainment on July 20, 2018. The first single from the project is “Numb,” which sadly arrived too late to make our playlist, These 13 Songs Will Totally Numb You. Sigh.

“Numb” features minor-key production with a darker, enigmatic tilt. Myers’ vocals can be described as beautiful, mysterious, and pure. The melody on the verses is memorable, with a dash of playfulness. A gargantuan, guitar-heavy chorus follows relatively tame, balanced verses. Here, Myers rises to the occasion vocally, matching the intensity of those jagged, malicious guitars. Rock on! The bridge contrasts the verses and the chorus, residing in a major key as opposed to minor. “Numb” ends raucously, with the memorable, ultra-powerful chorus.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Meg Myers is on fire with “Numb.” She serves up energetic vocals, which match an alluring, energetic, and intense backdrop. There are no notable rubs as Myers does a superb job of building anticipation for Take Me to the Disco.
