Standout Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix enlists Grammy-nominated R&B standout Khalid for a gorgeous, love-centric single, “Ocean.”

Last time we heard from Dutch DJ and EDM wunderkind Martin Garrix, he was collaborating with fellow Dutch DJ LOOPERS on the fantastic single, “Game Over”.  The 22-year old has returned with another brand-new single, “Ocean,” featuring Khalid.  Man, oh man, has Khalid been busy, ‘making that paper’ in 2018.  Of course, his spike in popularity is for good reason – that distinct voice.

Focusing on the production first, Martin Garrix has a lovely backdrop for Khalid to sing over.  It should be noted that he co-produces with Surinamese-Dutch DJ Giorgio Tuinfort.  The result is a warm, inviting sound that’s sleek but not overdone in the least.  The backdrop suits Khalid perfectly, who continues to bless us with his marvelous pipes. In addition to singing in his golden middle register, he also gives us a different look – falsetto.  Expectedly, he nails the falsetto, which paints upon lush, heartfelt strings, an awesome component of the production.  The use of strings also fits the theme of the record: love.

Final Thoughts 

When you put Martin Garrix and Khalid together, the result is brilliance.  “Ocean” is a beautifully-produced, beautifully-sung, and beautifully-written record.  There are no notable flaws or any that come to mind.  Two young guys from two different countries who are doing their thing and killing it.  They’ve earned my respect and fandom.
