DJ Marshmello is back at it again, period.  No, no Vans are involved unfortunately (Damn Daniel), but some pretty rad music is.  On “Baggin’” the ever-popular DJ/producer teams up with up-and-coming Detroit rapper, 42 Dugg.  The results are moderately positive, definitely a V-I-B-E without question. Ultimately, the record is expected to grace the DJ’s forthcoming album, Joytime IV.

Arriving at a respectable duration of 3:17, “Baggin’” is produced by Marshmello (duh), who does a kick ass job.  He gives 42 Dugg a banging backdrop, characterized by dark, minor-key production.  As is the expectation with trap, “Baggin’” ends up featuring relative minimalist, looped lines, anchored by a rhythmic trap beat.  While the overall effect may be hellish, it’s hellish in the most angelic, heavenly way possible – NO CAP. Moving on to those bars, now…

Speaking of NO CAP, 42 Dugg keeps it ‘all the way real.’ “Polly throw a six, never a five, pour me a four / Tell the world get off my dick.” Woo! He serves up a hard-nosed, tough rhymes, yielding an unapologetic performance overall.  He has a distinct tone of voice and unique delivery, which only adds more personality to the mix all said and done.  Would I consider the performance or song earth shattering when it’s all said and done? No, of course not, but I definitely enjoy the vibe that is given off – again, NO CAP!  The chorus isn’t, say, catchy-catchy, but it’s compelling at least to some degree.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Marshmello and 42 Dugg deliver a banger that’s worth spinning… at least once. No, the game isn’t changed, or the world altered by this trap record, but, it’s a vibe.  I mean, so much of music these days is a vibe, so, why not add even more of a vibe with “Baggin’”?
