Måneskin, GOSSIP | Track Review 🎵

Italian band Måneskin have a bone to pick with Los Angeles and its superficiality on “GOSSIP,” the fifth single from their 2023 album, RUSH!.

“Sip the gossip, drink ‘til you choke / Sip the gossip, burn down your throat.” Woo! Ah – there is nothing better than a song that is turned TF up from the jump! 🎵 “GOSSIP” is high octane, thanks to a lit groove, minor key, and energetic vocals from the unstoppable 🎙 Damiano David.  Basically, 🎙 Måneskin come in hot on the fifth advanced single from the band’s highly anticipated LP,  💿 RUSH! Joining Måneskin is the one and only 🎙 Tom Morello, who gives the guitars some surefire grit! 🎛 Fabrizio Ferraguzzo doesn’t disappoint in the production department either. 

The instrumental is a big reason why “GOSSIP” is incredibly entertaining and full of energy.  Of course, the other big reason is Damiano David, who commands this song like a champ.  He matches the intensity of the instrumental, bringing out those gossipy lyrics! “Welcome to the city of lies,” for example, seems to be shade towards Los Angeles, better known as the ‘City of Angels’ though, it gets a bad review in many a pop song! Another shady moment comes at the end of the first verse where David sings about superficiality – “Just put some plastic on your face.” The characterization gets no better in the pre-chorus, referencing fake people, a jaded American Dream, ultimately leading to the toxic, ear-catching chorus: “You’re not iconic, you are just like them all.” The second verse is similar to the first, with the cards revealed early on.  Fittingly, Morello gets a guitar solo, something that all guitar gods should be entitled to.

Final Thoughts 💭

Are Måneskin for everybody? No, but personally, I find the Italian band intriguing. I enjoy the high-energy sound of 🎵 “GOSSIP”.  Furthermore, the message is legit, even if Los Angeles seems to always get a bad rap.  All told, great vocals, and electrifying instrumental, memorable lyrics, and high energy make “GOSSIP” a fun one.
