Innuendo? More like full-on sexual vibes! Welcome to After Dark 🕛 🌃, a column featuring songs that are best suited for nighttime, specifically, the bedroom.  Many of the records featured here raise eyebrows, as well as the temperature! These After Dark tunes focus on the universal three-letter word:  SEX. The dark records gracing After Dark are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome.  In the 68th edition of After Dark (2022), we explore the naughty, risqué, & sexual vibes behind, 🎵Love Won’t Let Me Wait” by 🎙 Major Harris

Theme & Lyrics

“I need your love so desperately / And only you can set me free / When I make love to you.” That just sounds downright sexy AF.  Those lyrics hail from a once-in-a-lifetime 🎙 Major Harris hit, 🎵 “Love Won’t Let Me Wait”. Only select soul songs crossed over to the pop charts with “Love Won’t Let Me Wait” peaking at no. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.  Written by 🎼 ✍ Bobby Eli and Vinnie Barrett, it appears on Harris’ 1975 album, 💿 My Way. Clearly, Harris is referencing the act when he sings, “I need to have you / Next to me / In more ways than one…”

Major Harris sounds amazing on this five-and-a-half-minute slow jam (Note: there is a shorter, 45 Version).  He sings expressively, performing with incredible authenticity.  He’s backed by lush production, idiomatic of 70s Philadelphia soul.  Interestingly, something that makes “Love Won’t Let Me Wait” stands out are the orgasmic sound effects, which give this classy record a more erotic edge.  Honestly, it might even make the most sexual soul blush…Harris encourages things, but he never ‘loses his cool,’ explosions in ecstasy or not.

Final Thoughts 💭

Bitmoji ImageIs 🎵 “Love Won’t Let Me Wait” the most overt record to grace After Dark 🕛 🌃? No, but it is an older song that’s about sex.  Furthermore, those orgasmic sound effects are giving 🎙 Donna Summer,  🎵 “Love to Love You Baby”, vibes (another erotic 70s classic).
