“I

feel in love with an emo girl / All I want is an emo girl.” OMG… Well, pop-punk 🎙 Machine Gun Kelly has returned.  Depending on who you are, that’s either a good or a bad thing.  From my perspective, I most remember 🎵 “Wild Boy” MGK who was ‘Cleveland’ to the core.  That said, I kind of see the reinvention with some punk badassery, even if I didn’t consider 💿 Tickets to My Downfall the homerun others did.  Regardless, he’s now a 💿 mainstream sellout collaborating with 🎙 WILLOW who desires an 🎵 “emo girl”.  Do with that what you will!

Honestly, I went into “emo girl” skeptical.  The title is predictable, and honestly, after listening to it, so are the lyrics.  The verses play up emo cliches which is fine, but nothing we haven’t heard before.  I mean, I guess I’ll give Machine Gun Kelly credit for “She is a monster in disguise / and she knows all the words to the trap songs,” haha.  Still, the man feels a bit too old (31) to be singing about wanting an emo girl – it’s DEFINITELY a stretch.  I do find WILLOW’s role to be more interesting.  Perhaps it’s the fact that WILLOW is younger (more relatable to emo sensibilities), or the fact that she freely crushing on this girl.  I dunno – her verse is more fun, I guess:

“Choke-choke-choker on her neck

Kiss me, holy fuck, I’m bleeding on your blink tee

So, so, so many regrets

You tell me you’re depressed, baby girl, that makes two of us.”

Still, it’s all about emo clichés which isn’t particularly a brand-new or fresh topic.

Final Thoughts 💭

Bitmoji ImageIt should come as no surprise that I’m unimpressed with “emo girl.” Again, I just find it a stretch to hear this 31-year-old expressing his desires for an emo girl.  Still, to each his own, and I’m sure some of the kids will enjoy this one.  As for me, “It’s a NO for me, dawg.”
