Lizzo, Special [📷: Nice Life / Atlantic]Innuendo? More like full-on sexual vibes! Welcome to After Dark 🕛 🌃, a column featuring songs that are best suited for nighttime, specifically, the bedroom.  Many of the records featured here raise eyebrows, as well as the temperature! These After Dark tunes focus on the universal three-letter word:  SEX. The dark records gracing After Dark are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome.  In the 54th edition of After Dark (2022), we explore the naughty, risqué, & sexual vibes behind, 🎵 “Naked” by 🎙 Lizzo.

Theme & Lyrics

“Welcome to my body, I know it’s nice to meet it.” Ooh-la-la, the confidence, 🎙 Lizzo! Throughout her sophomore album, 💿 Special, Lizzo touts positive self-esteem, self-love, and body positivity.  What better way to do so than nakedness… or at least a song about it entitled 🎵 “Naked”.  With nakedness comes sex, right? There’s no way that Lizzo isn’t singing about ‘doing it,’ right? “Let down my guard / Undo my robe / I’m standin’ here / Don’t need no clothes.” Woo!

Actually, 🎵 “Naked” which ISN’T really sexual let alone scandalous.  That might seem ‘boring’ for this risqué column, he-he, but it still qualifies for After Dark 🕛 🌃 without a doubt! The ‘nudity’ is an example of Lizzo promoting self-love, body positivity, and speaking to presumably a lover regarding love. “Can I be discreet with you? Will you keep all my secrets?” she sings in the first verse, continuing, “I just wanna lay it down and open up the deepness.” Wow! Of course, the chorus is where she makes her most profound statement, accepting and loving herself and looking to receive acceptance and appreciation from her lover:

“I’m naked

Love how you look at me naked

Come make this body feel sacred

I’m a big girl, can you take it?

Naked.”

There’s still sex involved – to an extent – but it’s secondary to “Naked” as opposed to being primary… or something like that!

Final Thoughts 💭

Bitmoji Image🎵 “Naked” is NOT scandalous – not our typical After Dark 🕛 🌃 entry.  Still, there’s an intimate nature about the record, something Lizzo (via Apple Music) comments about:

I wanted to write a song about how comfortable I’ve become with myself, but then I evolved as a person. And as I’ve evolved, “Naked” has undergone a lot of rewriting. It has evolved with me. So now it’s like, ‘How accepting are you of me?’ It’s very intimate.

There you go.  Intimacy is more than enough to make this some of that killer After Dark 🕛 🌃 she-it!
