Lil Yachty is definitely one of rap music’s more idiosyncratic personalities.  Furthermore, at times, he’s been at best, mediocre.  Ask yourself this question, has Yachty released a truly classic studio album? The answer is No, and it’s not debatable.  But “Oprah’s Bank Account,” the single at hand isn’t solely attributed to Lil Boat – DaBaby serves as the co-lead artist, with Drake appearing as a featured guest.  Given the name of the song, if nothing else, there’s a hook to make you listen to it.

The question is, is “Oprah’s Bank Account” truly worth it? In this case, meh – keeping it 100.  Earl on the Beat gives Lil Yachty and DaBaby respectable production, but it certainly won’t change your life trajectory by any means.  As for Lil Boat, he exhibits personality on the chorus, but honestly, it’s utterly ridiculous and lacks all sense of profundity.

“I ain’t mad at ‘em, baby
If I seen’t you out, me too would be up on you crazy
Diamond in the rough, you look as good as Oprah’s bank account
I just wanna take you out…”

His horniness is one thing, but the autotune make things more annoying, to be honest. Drake is drippy on the first verse, referencing the Obama, Madonna, Osama, and a Range Rover…. As for Yachty, following his autotune chorus, he drops the second verse, though, “Same hoes hatin’ be in my DM” doesn’t exactly provide rousing subject matter… The best fit of the song comes from the unstoppable DaBaby, though neither statements “My bitch ‘bout it, ‘bout, she need a tank” or “Now his bitch goin’ ‘Baby on Baby’” are, um, transcendent.

Final Thoughts

So, “Oprah’s Bank Account” is… okay at best.  Lil Yachty, DaBaby. And Drake don’t really move the needle in their respective careers.  That’s not as big for DaBaby or Drake by my estimations, but Yachty – well – he could use a boost.  Maybe some folks will eat this up given its unique title, and maybe I’m just being a hater, but as for me, this is… meh.  At least the music video is entertaining.
