Lil Baby has had a great year in 2018.  His brief collaborative record with Drake, “Yes Indeed,” helped to ‘fuel the fire’ for a successful album, Harder Than Ever.  That’s awesome.  Post-album, Baby teams up with rapper Gunna on another brief collaborative record, “Drip Too Hard.” Unfortunately, “Drip Too Hard” is much more forgettable than “Yes Indeed.”

As aforementioned, “Drip Too Hard” is brief, clocking in at a mere two-and-a-half minutes. Lil Baby performs the first verse and the chorus. On the verse, he raps about luxury, drugs, and status.  The chorus that follows up is lengthy and not exactly what you call ‘catchy.’

“Drip too hard, don’t stand too close / You gon’ f**k around and drown off this wave / Doin’ all these shows, I’ve been on the road / I don’t care where I go as long as I get paid / Bad lil’ vibe, she been on my mind / Soon as I get back, she gettin’ slayed…”

There’s even more, but you get the idea. Gunna performs the second verse. He references material (“Diamonds dancin’ in the dial like this shit is a parade”), “bitches gettin’ saved” (Hmm, that’s not Biblical), and status.

Final Thoughts

Hmm, “Drip Too Hard” sounds like Lil Baby and Gunna have done just that and forgot to come up with a more meaningful, transcendent record.  This record is okay at best.  Essentially, we’ve ‘been there, done that’ many times over with any number of rappers.  Nothing makes this record particularly distinct from anything else.
