“I’m on the run with you, my sweet love / There’s nothing wrong contemplating God / Under the chemtrails over the country club.” 🎙 Lana Del Rey is back and she has the daunting task of following up her excellent 2019 masterpiece, 💿 Norman Fucking Rockwell! (her best album to date).  We first heard about 💿 Chemtrails Over the Country Club in 2020.  In fact, there was even chatter the album would arrive then.  But as it ends up, Chemtrails Over the Country Club arrives in 2021.  What better way than to prepare than the title track itself, 🎵 “Chemtrails Over the Country Club.”

Like many Lana Del Rey songs, “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” doesn’t spare length, running four-and-a-half minutes.  The good news is that this a well-rounded, enjoyable record that’s clearly worth the time. It was penned by 🎼 ✍ Del Rey and 🎼 ✍ Jack Antonoff with both ultimately producing as well.  From a songwriting perspective, expectedly, the results are quite intriguing – poetically-penned with numerous allusions.  Of course, the best moment arrives from the jump, with Lana singing in her signature vocal style on the chorus, excerpted above and continued below:

“Wearin’ our jewels in the swimming pool
Me and my sister just playin’ it cool
Under the chemtrails over the country club.”

It’s certainly a vibe. The cool energy served up is nothing short of awesome.  The same can be said of the vocal production, which is spot-on.  Initially, “Chemtrails…” is accompanied only by piano. More instruments enter the gradually, including guitar and drums, filling things out nicely.

After singing initially in her lower register on the chorus, Del Rey ascends into her gorgeous, rich upper register, showing her vocal versality. Interestingly, the jam-packed “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” concludes with just a drum groove for an expanded period of time.

Final Thoughts 💭

Lana Del Rey continues to be ‘one of a kind.’ In the case of “Chemtrails Over the Country Club,” that continues to be a positive thing.  Examine the lyrics, and Del Rey has no shortage of excellence.  The same can be said of her vocals, which remain radiant to the nth degree.  In reiteration, “Chemtrails” is definitely a vibe.
