Kevin Abstract, What Should I Do? [πŸ“·: RCA]Kevin Abstract surprises, continuing to embrace alternative music on β€œWhat Should I Do?”, an intriguing advance single from his album, Blanket.Β

Rapper and singer πŸŽ™ Kevin Abstract has a question: 🎡 β€œWhat Should I Do?” β€œWhat Should I Do?” marks another single released in advance of his 2023, post-BROCKHAMPTON solo album, πŸ’Ώ Blanket. Following the surprising single 🎡 β€œBlanket”, the question was would Kevin continue to pursue a change of pace – offering something starkly different from the past.Β  On the πŸŽ› Romil Hemnani and Jonah Abraham produced joint,Β  Abstract, once more, embraces alternative music.Β  The results are intriguing.

Kevin Abstract, Blanket [πŸ“·: RCA]The three-minute β€œWhat Should I Do?” commences with a unique intro.Β  A fine touch is the rhythmic guitar 🎸 accompaniment. Besides strong work behind the boards by Hemnani and Abraham, Kevin puts in the work vocally. Β Throughout, his voice sounds unique, thanks to effects and the approach he sings with.Β  The vocal layering, as well as the use of call and response, are welcome features. The melodies are tuneful, specifically during the refrain: β€œDon’t touch me, it turns me on / Frizzy hair, naked, hit the bong.” Ooh wee! Of course, in the chorus, he poses the titular question – Β β€œWhat should I do?” Notably, there is only one verse, prime evidence that β€œWhat Should I Do?” is a more contemporary track with a less orthodox form. Beyond the verse, the bridge is unique, preceding the extended outro (β€œBa-ba”). Who knows what Kevin Abstract is really getting at or going for on 🎡 β€œWhat Should I Do?” or Blanket for that matter, but this single is muy interesante!
