Kanye West, Lift Yourself © Def JamPolarizing rapper/producer Kanye West drops arguably the worst single of his illustrious career with “Lift Yourself.” At least he has ‘bars’ on “Ye Vs the People.”

Kanye West often finds ways to offend and piss of just about everybody. A number of fans were rethinking their ‘Kanye love’ following ‘Ye professing his ‘Trump love’, something he addresses on single “Ye Vs the People” (featuring T.I.). In addition to the most controversial single of the two, he also released the song at hand, “Lift Yourself.” Don’t expect to be lifted much.

“Lift Yourself” keeps it incredibly brief, clocking in at just two-and-a-half minutes in duration. It kicks off the chorus, which is performed courtesy of a sample by Amnesty (“Liberty”).  Some of the key lyrics are:

“Hard to see, ooh

The hang ups we have today

Said we need to strive for more liberty

Lift yourself upon your feet, let’s get it on…”

Following the chorus, an instrumental break follows featuring a Dezz sample.  Part of the chorus returns after the break, followed by the first entrance of Kanye West, prefacing the sole verse of the song.  “But they don’t realize, though…This next verse, this next verse though…These bars…Watch this some shit, go.” Kanye West certainly didn’t lie when he said his verse was “some shit.” He should’ve replace the word “some” with “TOTAL.”  The words speak for themselves.

“Poopy-di scoop

Scoop-diddy-whoop

Whoop-di-scoop-di-poop

Poop-di-scoopty.”

Final Thoughts

Since Kanye West is keeping it 100, I’m about to too.  WTF is this?  West is responsible for some of the best rap albums of the 00s and has had his share of triumphs in the 10s as well.  If “Lift Yourself” is what we have to look forward to on his forthcoming projects, then the self-proclaimed music genius has totally lost it.  There’s no way around it – this truly is “some shit.”
