Kane Brown, Weekend [Photo Credit: Sony]Rising country singer Kane Brown shows artistic growth on his chill, groovy, infectious new single, “Weekend.” There’s clear crossover potential.

“It’s 4:30 Friday, I get off at 5:00 / I come into your place, you come into mine.” Ooh la la! Kane Brown is on an upward trajectory in country music, period.  After releasing his debut album, rereleasing the deluxe edition, and dropping a couple of singles, I’ve seen Brown’s potential, if I felt he still had room to grow. On “Weekend,” Brown has finally won me over.

“Weekend” begins mysteriously and somewhat unsettled, before a soulful, country groove establishes itself.  The production is a sight to behold, rather hear. Love the lead electric guitar, dash of horns, there’s even some banjo – colorful palette of sounds.  The most colorful sound? The splashes of organ during the chorus, which gives it a mix of churchy, southern, soulful vibes.

Kane Brown sings with a cool approach on the verses, incorporating a hip-hop swagger within the context of country music. Honestly, this is one of the better vocals I’ve ever heard from him, especially considering he shows off more personality. He’s also quite suave.  The best section of “Weekend” is the catchy, chill chorus:

“Just chillin’ on the weekend, weekend / Sippin’ something on the cheap end, cheap end / Skinny dippin’ in the deep end, deep end / Or bass fishin’ with your feet in, feet in…”

Final Thoughts

Finally, a Kane Brown record that I can fully support without reservations.  My suspicion is that this talented young country musician will only get better and more seasoned with time.  “Weekend” is a record that has the potential to be a hit – it definitely has crossover appeal.  Hopefully, it takes off.  The vibes are legit.
