“But if the world was ending, you’d come over, right?” Ah, it was 🎵 “If the World was Ending” that helped elevate the profile of 🏆 Grammy-nominated Canadian pop singer/songwriter 🎙 JP Saxe.  Yes, of course he received the Grammy nomination for the song he co-wrote and performed with 🎼✍ Julia Michaels.  Unsurprisingly, “If the World was Ending” is set to appear on his debut album, 💿 Dangerous Levels of Introspection, alongside the fine single at hand, 🎵 “Like That”.  “Like That” once again taps the pen of Michaels, as well as the production skills of 🎛 Ryan Marrone.  The results are nothing short of positive for the rising star.

“Like That” commences with a lovely backdrop incorporating rhythmic guitar and keyboards (sounds like a string pad providing some sense of ambience).  This is a fine canvas for JP to sing over.  Of course, much like ace-in-the-hole “If The World Was Ending,” he sings beautifully and expressively.  Given the professional songwriting, it comes as no surprise that the lyrics are truly special. Thematically, Saxe focuses on everyone’s very topic: Love.  Ultimately, he’s found a love that he’s never experienced before, through thick and thin.  This is best exemplified on the epic chorus:

“No one’s ever loved me like that
3 A.M. in a hospital bed, runnin’ high on my meds sayin’
‘No one’s ever loved me like that’
Tell me, ‘No, you don’t have to be strong, you’re allowed to be wrong’
No one’s ever loved me like that
Mama crying ‘cause your love is the kind
She always wished I would find
No one’s ever loved me like that
No one’s ever loved me like that.”

Oh, the feels, the feels, THE FEELS! As “Like That” progresses, it picks up more steam, growing more dynamic and even more emotional.  I totally heart the robustness of the sound and of course, THE FEELS!

Final Thoughts 💭

JP Saxe definitely shows he has plenty to offer artistically early on into his career.   Right on bro! “Like That” is another awesome example of this.  All in all, “Like That” is a thoughtful, well-written song featuring a fine, authentic performance by Saxe.  Gets my seal of approval.
