Dipset is back! Hard-nosed, East Coast rap extraordinaire Jim Jones returns with a new banger, “Still Dipset.” Keeping it truly Dipset, he enlists Juelz Santana for the assist.  Yes please! From the start, “Still Dipset” features hyped-up, turned-up production work.  The best parts are the dusty, pummeling ‘East-Coast’ drums as well as the keyboard work.  “Still Dipset” is set in a minor key, naturally giving it an assertive, dark, and hellish sound.  The sound alone says, ‘Don’t mess with Dipset!’

Early on, listeners get a taste of the relatively catchy hook.

“It’s still Dipset, boy, you know it’s Dipset (go)
I been fresh, yeah, I’m hard to impress (huh)
I got killers, triggers on the index (hah)
I see through these n***as like they Windex (woo)
That’s a fact, that’s a fact, boy, that’s a Fendi (that’s a fact)…”

Jim Jones sounds vintage on the first verse.  As aforementioned, he retains a hard-nosed sound, distinct flow, and a truly machotone of voice.  Over the course of his verse, he references violence, hustling, burying friends, and using drugs (“I done watch when man threw up a whole hand full of percs.”) Juelz Santana follows on the second verse, incorporating elements of the hook. His most notable pop cultural reference is the Golden State Warriors, name-dropping “The Splash Brothers” (Steph Curry and Klay Thompson), as well as Kevin Durant and Draymond Green. Jim Jones drops superb ad-libs on the outro.

Final Thoughts

Is Dipset back strong without a doubt? They’re back respectably, but likely, “Still Dipset” isn’t enough to revive serious interest. Nonetheless, Jim Jones proves he’s still got it after all these years.  “Still Dipset” is definitely a banger.
