New Jersey-bred pop musician Jeremy Zucker showcases tremendous potential on his simple, yet effective, relatable single, “comethru.”
“I’m trying to realize / It’s alright to not be fine on your own.” Insightful! Jeremy Zucker is a rising 21-year old musician from New Jersey. Interestingly, Zucker considers himself to be a “social introvert” – that’s definitely relatable. In his bio, he cites Jon Bellion, blackbear, EDEN, Bon Iver, and Wet as his influences. Pretty sound list. Notably, his bio goes on to say that one of his songs was remixed by one of his influences, blackbear, appearing on his 2017 album digital druglord (“Make Daddy Proud”). How cool is that? Zucker, working toward his major label debut with Republic, is off to a good start with his latest single, “comethru.”
As the aforementioned excerpt from the pre-chorus suggests, Zucker desires company – he doesn’t merely want to be by himself anymore. As the title suggests, he wants a legitimate relationship, hence why he says, “And there’s one thing that I need from you / Can you come through?” On the second verse, he seems to comment on his social issues, asserting, “Couldn’t put my phone down / Scrolling patiently / It’s all the same to me / Just faces on a screen, yeah.” Ultimately, he wants what most of us want, love – a human connection transcendent of the emptiness of social media and impersonal relationships.
Final Thoughts
“Comethru” is a relatively simple record, but definitely well-rounded. The production is solid, initially fueled by the guitar accompaniment, a perfect backdrop for Zucker’s expressive pipes. As he sings, he sounds both distinct, nuanced, and authentic. This young dude is definitely one to watch. There’s no question why Republic signed him – lots of potential.
