Jennifer Lopez drops a respectable, well-rounded single with โOn My Way,โ which appears in the film, Marry Me.
W
hen we think ofThe writing team for โOn My Way (Marry Me)โ includes Leroy Clampitt, and
Michael Pollack. As far as production,
Keith Hetrick and
Trevor Muzzy handle the boards. โOn My Wayโ commences with piano, clearly a different โbackdropโ for J. Lo! Despite an about face (to be fair, sheโs sung ballads many times), Lopez sings beautifully. Her tone is well-suited for this record, and she achieves the right feels. My favorite moment, unsurprisingly, is the chorus, which features the best songwriting and vocals:
โAnd every heartbreak was a yellow brick road Pointing me straight, just taking me home I was never lost; I was just passing through I was on my way to you.โ
At nearly two minutes in, โOn My Wayโ picks up the pace, thanks to pummeling drums. Even with an increase in pace, it doesnโt stray too far from adult contemporary pop. Lopez serves up some nice nuances and ad-libs, including a little falsetto (for lack of a better word).
Final Thoughts
All in all, โOn My Way (Marry Me)โ is a respectable, well-rounded ballad from Jennifer Lopez. She sings well, and both writing, and production get the job done. No, the wheel isnโt reinvented, but this works.
