Jason Derulo & David Guetta, Goodbye [Photo Credit: Warner Bros.]Jason Derulo, David Guetta, Nicki Minaj, and Willy William make a great team on their bright, optimistic collaborative single, “Goodbye.”

Jason Derulo is equivalent to hits, or at least a hit-making machine.  The same can be said about David Guetta, who’s had his fair share of success. The two join forces for “Goodbye,” a single that also enlists the services of Nicki Minaj and Willy William.  All in all, the end result is positive for Derulo, Guetta, and company.

“Goodbye” features a bright, optimistic sound.  The record is set in a major key and chocked-full of energy. It successfully blends urban-pop and reggaetón, evidenced by the beat and synths. “Goodbye” is sleekly produced. Effects-heavy sung vocals by Nicki Minaj at the onset: “It’s time to say goodbye / But don’t leave me alone, just stay for the night / I need you, I need you tonight.” This is eventually part of the chorus, performed by Jason Derulo and Minaj.

Speaking of JD, Derulo drops solid vocals, particularly when he’s able to get loose towards the end and deliver some soulful runs.  Willy Williams drops the second verse in Spanish.  Besides contributing to the chorus, Nicki Minaj earns her own, rapped verse.  The third verse is a treat, featuring straight, un-pitched rhymes, sexed-up as always, but not ‘too far to the left.’

Final Thoughts

“Goodbye” is a great record for the dance floor, club, listening for enjoyment.  The chorus by Jason Derulo and Nicki Minaj is certainly catchy. A truly respectable record, perhaps a bit over-produced/too slick.
