Welcome to Sunday Refresh ๐Ÿ™, a column that seeks to highlight inspirational songs to uplift the spirit.ย  These tracks that appear on Sunday Refresh ๐Ÿ™ may or may not be faith-based or religious; the goal is for them to make you feel better โ€“ refreshed.ย  So, for the 17th edition of Sunday Refresh ๐Ÿ™ (2022), we highlight ๐ŸŽต โ€œArenโ€™t You Glad You Know the Lordโ€ as performed by ๐ŸŽ™ James Cleveland.

โ€œArenโ€™t you glad you know the Lord,

In the pardon of your sins.

Glad you know Him for yourself,

And glad that you let him come in.โ€

Ah, those words speak for themselves! They appear on the thoughtful, spiritually uplifting ๐ŸŽ™ James Cleveland record, ๐ŸŽต โ€œArenโ€™t You Glad You Know the Lordโ€.ย  Cleveland performed this pop-to-gospel transformation alongside ๐ŸŽ™ The Northern & Southern Choirs of the GMWA.ย  Notably, this inspiration selection most recently appears on a 53-track, 4-disc compilation, ๐Ÿ’ฟ The King of Gospel Music, released by Malaco in 2021.

amenSo, I mentioned a pop-to-gospel transformation, didnโ€™t I? What is the transformation, you ask? Well, โ€œArenโ€™t You Glad You Know the Lordโ€ borrows its melody from a ๐Ÿ† Grammy-nominated ๐ŸŽ™ Whitney Houston gem, ๐ŸŽต โ€œDidnโ€™t We Almost Have It Allโ€. Somehow, the song lost the highly coveted Song of the Year, sigh. Cleveland mentions during a spoken word portion of the song about โ€œborrowing the tune,โ€ giving Houston props for the message of the song, written by ๐ŸŽผโœ Michael Masser and ๐ŸŽผโœ Will Jennings. ย The lyrics are few, as excerpted above, but they are potent, giving God props for being merciful, omnipotent, and, of course, The Great I Am.ย  Four lines perfectly conveys how awesome HE is! Of course, Cleveland and choir sing exceptionally!
