Houston, I Like That | 1 Hit WONDERful

In the 34^th edition of 1 Hit WONDERful (2026), we highlight “I Like That” by Houston featuring Chingy, Nate Dogg & I-20.

It only takes ONE hit to solidify a musical legacy 💯! On 1 Hit WONDERful, we highlight songs that were the SOLE hit by a given musician.  It is possible that the artists appearing on this list earned a minor hit or two, BUT for the most part, that ONE hit earned them recognition. So, in the 34^th edition of 1 Hit WONDERful (2026), we dive into “I Like That”, the one-hit wonder by Houston.

R&B singer Houston (Houston Summers IV) scored a top-15 hit with his clubby single, “I Like That” (it peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100). “I Like That” is the second track on Houston’s sole studio album, It’s Already Written, released in 2004. What happened to the singer with so much potential? Sadly, he had a severe mental breakdown, which included a suicide attempt and gouging out his left eye. On his gold-certified single, Summers enlisted Chingy (Howard Bailey Jr.), Nate Dogg (Nathaniel Hale, 1969 – 2011), and I-20 (Bobby Wardell Sandimanie II) for the assist. “I Like That” was written by Houston, Chingy, Nate Dogg, I-20, Trak Starz (Zo and Sham), and Steve Prudholme. Trak Starz produced it.

“I Like That” goes hard from the jump. Trak Starz put their feet into the production. The synths really pop on this one! This joint screams club, club, club! The crowning achievement is the chorus, excerpted earlier. It is expressive and unforgettable. Houston and Nate Dogg get the honors of performing it. Houston takes the reins on the first and second verse.  His performance is well-rounded. “Girl, you feelin’ me are ya feelin’ me? / I can feel the temptation comin’ over me (comin’ over me),” he sings in the second verse, and continues, “I can feel the vibration (Feel the vibration) / Off on me (Off on me).” Word. Clearly, Houston had potential. Chingy arrives, dropping the third verse. “Drop and let me see ya bring it back up top,” he raps, and continues, “She hot like a boiling pot / On the stove like whoa here we go (here we go).” Noted. I-20 gets even less time to shine on the fourth verse: “Yeah jackpot, giving backshots to broads / Make that ass drop, throw it back, clap and pause.” Nate Dogg gets his own moment during the bridge: “(Whoa) Picture me all over your body / Big Nate Dogg’ll jump start that party.” All told, “I Like That” remains a highlight from 2004. To reiterate, Houston had immense potential. He scored a gold single and gold album.  But mental health is real, and life, well, it life(s). Still, we’ll never forget this highlight of a short-lived career.
