The goal is for these songs to make you feel better – be LIFTED to new heights!  So, for the 32nd edition of Music Lifts (2026), we highlight “God Favored Me” performed by Hezekiah Walker & LFC featuring Marvin Sapp and DJ Rogers.

“This is my testimony, everybody / How God favored me in spite / Of my enemies, and if God / Did it for me, he’ll do the / Same thing for you.”
Amen, Hezekiah Walker, amen 🙏!  The gospel musician and pastor of Love Fellowship Tabernacle, alongside LFC (The Love Fellowship Choir), delivered a moving, powerful contemporary gospel record with “God Favored Me”. It originally appeared on his 2008 album, Souled Out, as two separate songs (“God Favored Me (Part I)” and “God Favored Me (Part II)” featuring Marvin Sapp and DJ Rogers). The single, featuring Sapp and Rogers, was released as “God Favored Me (Radio Edit)” and “God Favored Me (Extended Version)” in July 2009.  “God Favored Me” was written by Jules Juda and produced by Donald Lawrence.

Hezekiah Walker sets the tone with uplifting spoken word, excerpted earlier. Reverent vocals by the Love Fellowship Choir follow, with Walker continuing to minister and amplify the spirit. “Love is patient, caring; love is kind / Love is felt most when it’s genuine,” LFC sings, but also acknowledges, “I’ve had my share of love abused, manipulated /… I can’t help but give You glory /… I know you favored me.” All the while, the thoughtful songwriting and anointed voices sing they’re accompanied by warm, sophisticated production work. There is standard gospel instrumentation (keys, organ, bass, drums, etc.), and strings (programming, perhaps).  While LFC continues to uplift with lyrics like “Because my enemies did try but couldn’t triumph over me,” Walker continues to minister.  The third verse/bridge features a different harmonic progression, distinguishing itself from the other sections, while still connecting. “They whispered, conspired, they told their lies (God favors me)…” During this section, the key modulates a couple of times, with the choir digging in more. Walker also digs in more, giving more oomph, capped off by a dynamic “Yes” section.  He sings, spiritedly, instead of ministering. Marvin Sapp takes over the lead, with the choir responding, “God favors me.” The vamped “yes” section follows, with Sapp ad-libbing and riffing powerfully; he’s locked in. DJ Rogers takes the reins next, with his ripe tenor leading the charge. Rogers ad-libs, with some ministering by Walker, too.  Near the end of this eight-minute juggernaut, the familiar, celestial instrumental riff returns, signaling the end of this powerful, contemporary gospel gem. The big takeaway of “God Favored Me” is that God is with you even in the midst of the storm and adverse situations.  With Him on your side, you can never fail.
