Pop singer-songwriter Haiden Henderson drops an electrifying, enticing, and irresistibly delicious bop with “dumblond.”
“Dumblond” begins with dramatic strings – violin and viola – performed by Molly Rogers. The arrangement (Rogers and Benny Cassette) is marvelous! Also, it sounds classical and cinematic. Beyond the strings, the groove cooks. Upping the ante is a minor key. With a sickening backdrop, Haiden Henderson brings it vocally. Some of his best moments involve the head voice – falsetto, baby! The melodies are tuneful, while the lyrics are catchy, fun, and ‘all the things.’ “Big bang confetti / You left me like a three-leaf clover,” he sings, and continues, “You think I’m boring / You poor thing / But let me show you.” Word. The lyrics are even more captivating and eyebrow-raising in the second verse:
“Do you like it when I strip down to just my briefs?
Yes, you can touch it, I just got it bleached
Everyone wants to try this
Boys and girls and straight and curls
Should get to dye as much as they want.”
Wow! The chorus, involving the desire to be a dumb blond, slaps. A timely groove contrast at the end only amplifies the pop goodness of “dumblond.” Haiden Henderson may be blonde, but he’s no dumb blonde, at least regarding this relatively brief but electrifying alternative pop bop.
