Scanning the Charts (1/20/22): Gunna shocks the world, beating out The Weeknd for no. 1 on the Billboard 200.
M
usic chart analysis, here we come! Scanning the ChartsBillboard 200
Gunna debuts at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with
DS4EVER, his second no. 1 album. It would be less surprising he debuted at no. 1 considering who his competition was…
Shockingly,
The Weeknd debuts at no. 2 with
Dawn FM. I was certainly shocked to see Abel Tesfaye fall sort of the glory of that
“Number One Spot” #Ludacris. Worth noting, Gunna only edged him slightly – 150,000 units vs. 148,000.
Both Gunna and The Weeknd knock last week’s no. 1 album, the
Encanto soundtrack, to no. 3.
Last week’s no. 2 album,
30, courtesy of
Adele, drops two spots to no. 4.
Overall, the Billboard 200 is uneventful AF. Following debuts at the first two spots, the next debut lands at no. 183. There,
Yeat debuts quietly with
Up 2 Me.
Billboard Hot 100
Adele sees
“Easy on Me” top the Hot 100 for a ninth nonconsecutive week. Worth noting, “Easy on Me” has charted a total of 14 weeks. So, more than 64% of the single’s chart stay has been spent at no. 1!
“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from
Encanto continues to be the talk of the Hot 100. Three weeks in, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” rebounds back to no. 4 after slipping to no. 5 last week.
Who earns the highest new single on the Hot 100? It should come as no surprise that it’s
Gunna after
DS4EVER topped the Billboard 200.
“Pushin P” with
Future and featuring
Young Thug, debuts at no. 7.
It should also come as no surprise that
The Weeknd earns a lofty debut on the Hot 100 following the no. 2 start of
Dawn FM. The brilliant single,
“Sacrifice,” launches at no. 11. Also, worth noting,
“Take my Breath” re-enters the Hot 100 at no. 22 (it peaked at no. 6).
The first (and only) new non- Gunna or The Weeknd entry on the Hot 100 arrives courtesy of country musician
Maren Morris, who’s been driving
“Circles Around This Town”. “Circles” debuts at no. 63.
