After delaying Mr. DavisĀ by a month, Gucci Mane drops the fourth single from the project, āCurve,ā featuring The Weeknd.
The bug has hit Gucci Mane.Ā The ever-prolific Atlanta rapper was set to release his new album, Mr. Davis, September 15, initially.Ā Unfortunately, Mr. Davis was delayed until October 13.Ā Despite the disheartening news for fans, Gucci dropped his fourth single from the album, āCurveā featuring The Weeknd. Anytime The Weeknd appears, isnāt it good news?
The brief āCurveā opens mysteriously, which can mean only one thing ā it sounds faded.Ā This plays to the strengths of The Weeknd without question. After initial instability, a slick, trap beat anchors the enigmatic synths, painted over by distinct vocals of The Weeknd.Ā Thereās a clear vibe, which bodes well in Gucciās favor, even though he doesnāt appear until a minute-and-a-half into the song! When Gucci Mane finally arrives, heās sound. He doesnāt deliver anything particularly groundbreaking, but his flow is rock-solid.
While there are pros about āCurveā ā The Weeknd, the production, and the chorus among them ā there are some cons.Ā A solid song, thereās just not enough Gucci Mane.Ā Heās the lead artist, but this feels more like The Weeknd is the lead.Ā That shouldnāt be.Ā There are a number of ways that this couldāve been fixed.Ā One is to simply include more rhymes.Ā Another verse wouldnāt of killed Gucci, would it? Another solution would be to have Gucci kick things off, followed by the Weeknd.
Final Thoughts
All in all, āCurveā is good.Ā What āCurveā isnāt is great.Ā Arguably, this is a step above what Gucci Mane has rolled out so far from Mr. Davis.Ā But, this doesnāt feel like a surefire hit. Ā The Weeknd delivers, but heās also packed a bigger punch elsewhere.Ā Gucci has a great flow, but he doesnāt rap enough, nor say enough.Ā Good, but still leaves more to be desired.
