Pop singer-songwriter Greyson Chance delivers another home run in 2026 with his bold yet sugary-sweet single, “SUGAR RUSH.”
“SUGAR RUSH” stands out from the get-go. Well-produced, the piano-led backdrop is lovely, anchored by a relaxed but rad groove. Lush strings and programming add warmth and sophistication. Greyson Chance sings divinely… in a hellish way. The lyrics aren’t going for sophistication but rather are blunt, bold, frank, and honest. Cleverly, in the first verse, he sings, “Living on the internet, it’s a mausoleum / If I’m dead inside, tell me how come I can feel it?” Great line! More, please! “Feel the wind in my hair / Put the shots on the table boys pull,” he sings in the second verse, and adds, “Rock shows, ballrooms, it’s a coliseum / If I’m too fucked up, how come I can feel it? / I’m the drums, I’m the lights, I’m a nine-inch nail / I’m a star.” Woo! As great as those lyrics are, the chorus is the crème de la crème, in all its unfiltered, tuneful glory!
“And I said, ‘Hi, have I met you before?
I smoked some good shit on the way, now I’m feeling unsure
I think I’d like to know you
Sugar rush
Candy lips, suck it up
I think I’d like to know you’.”
Word. I’m curious what that good shit he smoked was. Anyway, beyond the colorful verses and chorus, Greyson can’t be tamed, Miley! “I’m the same motherfucker that I used to be,” he proclaims on the bridge and concludes, “Hell yeah / I think I kind of like me.” Damn, Greyson! Even as shocking as it is to read, Chance is much cooler in how he delivers these explicit moments. All told, “SUGAR RUSH” gives Chance another pop bop. I love the contrast of his smooth singing with those punchy, unapologetic lyrics. Never change, Greyson!
