Do you know what day it is? It is Wednesday, folks! Do you know what that means? Why, it is Wacky Wednesday! In the spirited column, we analyze and explore unique, unusual, or wacky songs from different genres.  These songs can be new or old; the only requirement is that they ‘catch the ear’ because of their distinctiveness.  In the 40th edition of Wacky Wednesday (2026), we break down the unique “Aloe Vera” by Greyson Chance. Wacky Wednesday vibes commence!

“You reading In Cold Blood / Like the mother fucker that you are…”
I beg your finest pardon, Greyson Chance? Yep, that’s how the gifted, openly gay pop singer-songwriter gets down on “Aloe Vera.” He adds on the ballad, “Grow your own marijuana ‘case the price goes up / Taking quicky little hitties in the parking lot.” This isn’t your standard pop song.  It stands out as one-of-one. “Aloe Vera” is the second track from Chance’s third studio album, Palladium, released in 2022. He composed it alongside producer Jason Reeves.

The production is gorgeous.  The thought and care put into the dream-like music reflect sophistication (the keys, programming, guitars, etc.). Greyson Chance, the star, delivers authentic, expressive, and spirited vocals.  His instrument is special.  Also, special? The memorable lyrics and melodies.  The melodies are sophisticated.  The lyrics are poetic, though ‘refined’ and ‘sophisticated’ aren’t the right adjectives. Chance cusses with such conviction: “And when the money ain’t there / Then you just don’t eat / Not like them Silverlake fuckers with their NFTs / Grow your own aloe vera ‘case you get burnt.” Yep, Greyson enjoys fuck… he finds several opportunities to use it! Even with his potty mouth, his falsetto is angelic at the end of each verse, where “Nobody knows my baby, baby, baby.” Oh, and going back to the first verse, which also recurs in the third verse, what about the banger of a line where “Reading William S. Burroughs like a beatnik freak / Say there’s poetry in the way we fall asleep.” Chance makes other unique references, which make “Aloe Vera” one of a kind. A gem from 2022 that not enough folks have heard.
