Getting to Know... Shattered [Photo Credits: Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype, Flash Flood Photography, Mayhem Magazine, Shattered]For the 57th interview on The Musical Hype, Florida metal collective Shattered return, after being the featured interviewee on Interview #18.

“[We are] very unique in how we blend new and old school metal and a melting pot of music… We put on a pretty cool stage show for the audience to get their blood pumping even more.” That’s a pretty sick answer that thrash/black metal band Shattered provides The Musical Hype on our 57th interview in the Getting to Know… series.  The band is comprised of Tony Pettry (guitar), Fred Verett (vocals), Jay Wells (lead guitar), Shawn Conner (drums), and Jonathan Warrington (bass).

Here’s the deal; Interview #57 marks the SECOND interview with the Florida metal collective, who also lay claim to Interview #18.  Once again, The Musical Hype gets some great insight into the background of the band, goals, and of course, the music itself.  That’s pretty cool! Without further ado, here is Getting to Know… Shattered: Interview #57!

Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype (Faulkner): Let’s get this started off right. For those who may not be familiar with Shattered, what would you say makes your band distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

Shattered: Hello, we are Shattered from the Tampa Bay area. We are considered at this point to be a thrash /black metal band.  Shattered is very unique in how we blend new and old school metal and a melting pot of music. Not only is our music unique but we put on a pretty cool stage show for the audience to get their blood pumping even more.

Faulkner: Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Shattered form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

Shattered: Tony Pettry started the band back in 2014 due to wanting to play heavier music. In the beginning it was just friends jamming and trying to get established to have fun in our local scene.

Shattered: We stepped back and realized we are pretty decent, so we wanted to take Shattered to the next level. Things are coming along nicely as long we stay on track.

Faulkner: Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

Shattered: Me, Tony Pettry loves King Diamond till all end. Danzig, Kiss, Iron Maiden and so many more have been my inspiration.

Faulkner: Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

Shattered: Shattered was on tour with Sykosis one time and we played an awesome show in South Carolina and getting together with our boys from Headcell we ended up on the roof of the place partying with the whole crowd. Very surprised nobody fell off. lol

Faulkner: Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

Shattered: My favorite song would be “Parasites.” That song is intense, and it just doesn’t slow down which draws the crowd into a frenzy.

Faulkner: Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Shattered: Nothing really special. We are your ordinary people trying to make something of ourselves.

Faulkner: Closing this thing out, what is Shattered currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

Shattered: Shattered is working on our new album named Skinwalker to be released in 2020.  Follow us on our website, www.shattered727.com.

Faulkner: Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
