“W

e want to try to make Rabid Hood a hard-hitting hard rock band that people notice and talk about.” Sounds like a fantastic, rad goal, 🎙 Rabid Hood 🤘! Self-described as a “classic hard rock band with a melodic touch,” the five members of Rabid Hood (🎙 Roger Olsen, 🎙 Steinar Aven, 🎙 Noralf Venås, 🎙 Terje Martinussen, and 🎙 Sveinung Igland) hail from different band from the rock and metal scene.  That’s a big-time plus! In our 237th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, as always, we get great insight into this west Norway collective, including their genesis, career goals and aspirations, influences, and of course, music endeavors currently and in the future.  So, without further ado, prepared to be captivated by 🎤 Getting to Know… Rabid Hood: Interview No. 237!

Starting things off, for those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Rabid Hood distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 We are a classic hard rock band with a melodic touch. With inspiration from the 70s and 80s, it is hard-hitting hard rock with the influence of heavy metal, a controlled sort of insanity, the reverb guitar solos that make you feel successful. Hope it is a bit of fresh air for all new and old hard rockers to enjoy.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did your Rabid Hood form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had early on?

🎤 We wanted to start a new hard rock band and 🎙 Steinar Aven (guitar), 🎙 Roger Olsen (vocals), and 🎙 Terje Martinussen (drums) started recording some demo songs a few years ago. The songs remained untouched until we got 🎙 Noralf Venås (guitars) and 🎙 Sveinung Igland (bass) in the band in the summer of 2021. We all come from different bands with extensive experience in the metal and rock ‘n’ roll scene with members from 🎙 Helheim, ex- 🎙 Taake, 🎙 Trelldom, 🎙 Nattverd, 🎙 Aventyr, and 🎙 Spitfire hopefully this creates a solid foundation for success.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 Our goals are still the same we have big ambitions to get out there and play our music in front of live audiences as much as we can. We have a lot of music ready to be recorded for a whole album, so there is a lot of work ahead. We want to try to make Rabid Hood a hard-hitting hard rock band that people notice and talk about, and I hope we will achieve that in this crazy music world we live in lol.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 We were all born in the 70’s so we like what we grew up with … like Motorhead, AC / DC, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, etc and we always wanted to be like them. I think you get inspiration from the music you like and listen to on a daily basis, but we are trying to make our own sound. When you’re trying to make a good song, it will always be affected by what lies in your subconscious even if you try hard not to.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

🎤 Well since Rabid Hood is a brand-new band, we have not started playing live yet due to the Coronavirus and restrictions but some years ago, we were going on a tour to the Netherlands with my other band Aventyr. We were flying from Bergen to Amsterdam and had to land in Copenhagen because there was a power cut in the airport of Amsterdam so we couldn’t land that night. We had to sit on a bus all night for twelve hours from Copenhagen to Amsterdam and then in a rental car for a couple of hours to make it in time for our first gig. But it was a blast and we had great fun with a wonderful audience, so, it was worth it.

Rabid Hood

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 I think 🎵 “Spiteful” is the song we are most proud of. Lead guitar Noralf’s solo is truly a masterpiece, the hard-hitting drummer with a touch of metal, hard rock and rock at the same time, rhythm guitar and bass which creates a solid foundation for success and a vocalist who tops it all. The production and performance of the song we are really proud of, and we think this is the sound of Rabid Hood when it comes to songwriting in the future.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 Well our first 2 songs are out on all digital platforms, and more are coming in near future. Feel free to check out our other bands, 🎙 Helheim, 🎙 Aventyr, and 🎙 Nattverd – you won’t be disappointed and don’t forget to rock😊.

Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
