Getting to Know... Insolace: Interview #69 [Photo Credit: Insolace, Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype]Gracing the 69th interview on The Musical Hype is the dedicated, down-to-earth, London-based alternative rock band, Insolace.

“…Millie’s distinct vocal style separates us from your typical alternative rock band.” Having a vocalist with a distinct style always goes a long way when it comes to any rock band – FACTS!  Gracing the 69th interview in the Getting to Know… series on The Musical Hype is London-based alternative rock band, Insolace.  The compelling five-piece is comprised of that distinct vocalist, Millie Cook, as well as Regan Wharton (guitar), Conor Hyde (guitar), Sam Bryant (bass), and Onyi Olisa (drums).  Other things that stand out about this particular interview is how ‘down to earth’ the band seems to be (“I could probably die happy if Insolace is playing to a hundred people a night”) as well as their dedication to their craft (“…Other than music I don’t think any of us really care for much else…we’re all fully immersed with our music careers.”) Without further ado, here is Getting to Know… Insolace: Interview #69.

Insolace [Photo Credit: Insolace]Let’s get this started off right. For those who may not be familiar with INSOLACE, what would you say makes your band distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

Insolace: Firstly, I’d say Millie’s distinct vocal style separates us from your typical alternative rock band. Also, the instrumental tracks in our set that our separate songs add to the vibe we as a band are trying to convey.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did INSOLACE form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

Insolace: Well, the band formed from the previous carnation that was Oceans, and since then, the goals never really changed, only 3 of the band members, the band’s-based location, and the name!

Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first
starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

Insolace: I don’t think so, the idea has always been to work as hard as we can towards this band and see where that gets us ha-ha. It’s not an aspiration for us to be the biggest thing since the Beatles, I could probably die happy if Insolace is playing to a hundred people a night.

Insolace [Photo Credit: Insolace]Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest
musical influences and how are they influential?

Insolace: I’d say dynamically, Don Broco and Lower Than Atlantis heavily influence our instrumental idea of things. But general influences would have to be bands like Deftones, Foo Fighters, Fleetwood Mac. The list goes on really.

Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened
during a performance?

Insolace: I don’t know about the craziest, but a time that comes to mind was during our last Brighton show when we started our set, but the sound tech was so out his head that he didn’t know the sound desk was off. He was so drunk that we had to pretty much do his job for him…

Insolace [Photo Credit: Insolace]Wow 😮! Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

Insolace: I like all our songs that we’ve written! If I were to choose one though I’d say our song “Stay the Night” as that song has received the most positive feedback at gigs. It was one of the first songs we wrote as well so there’s a bit of nostalgia attached to that track!

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you?
Secret talents or surprising titbits?

Insolace: Onyi is a photographer? Ha-ha, other than music I don’t think any of us really care for much else. It’s a good thing I suppose, as we’re all fully immersed with our music careers.

Closing this thing out, what is your band currently working on, promoting that you
can share with us or want us to know about?

Insolace: We have a brand spanking new single out called “Not Alright”! It’s available across all streaming platforms and is a recommended listen for this crazy time we’re living in… This single is super fresh so give it a listen whilst it’s hot…
