🎤 Getting to Know… Haneke Twins: Interview No. 217 [📷: Haneke Twins, Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype]On the 217th interview on The Musical Hype, we get the inside scoop on Swiss band Haneke Twins, formed by two CERN scientists.

“O

ne thing we certainly want and try to avoid is to be a copy-cat band.” Great philosophy, 🎙 Haneke Twins! Prior to that statement characterizing themselves, the band states, “The sound we have is somewhere in between Joy Division, Madrugada, and Porcupine Tree.” Now that’s intriguing! As is always the case on any Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, the band provides commentary on how they formed, goals, musical influences, and, of course, their musical endeavors present and future.  For HT, they inform, “Our big goal that we set is still not realised, but we’re working hard to pursue it.” What is that big goal? Well, you’ll just have to dive into 🎤 Getting to Know… Haneke Twins: Interview No. 217 to find out!

Starting things off, for those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Haneke Twins distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 We both come from different musical backgrounds. So, the sound we have is somewhere in between Joy Division, Madrugada, and Porcupine Tree. Sometimes it goes heavily on one side or the other… But that’s the beauty of making music and I guess how things move forward. One thingwe certainly want and try to avoid is to be a copy-cat band.

Haneke TwinsOkay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Haneke Twins form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

🎤 We started the band in 2018. We were playing together before in cover bands, and at a point we wanted to start writing our own stuff.  Prepared five tracks, jumped on a plane and our first EP was born. Our big goal that we set is still not realised, but we’re working hard to pursue it. Play in a major venue and/or festival.

Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 Well… It started as a fun project but right after it a couple of gig requests came so we kept pursuing it. The second release, Astronaut, came forward which brought more exposure, but the pandemic situation made everything worse. So, the goals now are to prepare for the new release, promote 💿 Astronaut with gigs and have fun!

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 Madrugada, Interpol, Dillinger Escape Plan, Porcupine Tree. Very wide!

Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.

🎤 We were scheduled to play in a small festival in the north of Switzerland. We drove there, set up, all ok. Very cool place. We were scheduled to go live at 22:00. Line up started on time, but then all hell broke loose. There was a huge delay in the middle causing us to play at 02:00. Of course, everyone was destroyed (including the crowd), so we played, packed and left devastated… But again, what a cool venue! 🙂

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 🎵 “River” that is. Deals with a very sensitive subject. It deals with self-harming and having suicidal thoughts. It’s a big problem unfortunately that many people face. We should always be alert. A “hey – want to grab a coffee” when we see anyone, friend or complete stranger, who looks sad, stressed or lost can be the turning point of a life.

Haneke TwinsIs there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 We’re both working on the largest physics laboratory in the world! CERN that is. We’re contributing to the particle physics world.

Closing things out, what is Haneke Twins currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 We mainly focus on our next release. We have a few mature tracks that we will include in the coming gigs and many others in the pipeline.
