“We try to create a music full of emotions. Our aim is to make the listener travel, to imagine a story that could be different for each listener.” Sounds pretty awesome,🎙 flyingdeadman.  The French cinematic post-rock band serves as the interviewees on the 185th Q&A on The Musical Hype – my, my, my, how time flies! The band keeps things relatively short but serve up sufficient background and insight into their musical craft.  So, without further ado, check out 🎤 Getting to Know… flyingdeadman: Interview No. 185 for yourself!

Starting things off, for those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes flyingdeadman distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off

🎤 With flyingdeadman, we play a kind of cinematic post rock. We try to create a music full of emotions. Our aim is to make the listener travel, to imagine a story that could be different for each listener.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did your flyingdeadman form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

🎤 The band is quite old, the musicians have changed lots of time, the two former members are 🎙 Aurélien and 🎙 Fabien, the two guitarists that are in the band since the beginning about 15 years ago. Firstly, we played a kind of neo metal / post rock music with a singer. The vagaries of life meant that some had to leave the group. In 2010, we decided to turn to an atmospheric post-rock with two guitars and samples. Then, three years ago, 🎙 Damien (drums) and 🎙 Christophe (bass) came to enrich the group. Our goal at the beginning was just to have fun playing music together.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 Nowadays, we wish to reach more and more listeners to share our universe with them, it’s not for money as our EPs are available as “name your price,” it’s just for the pleasure to have returns from the listeners. We’re so glad when someone says to us, he our she was touched by our music. We’d like to have more concerts because it’s something really pleasant to play in front of an audience and be able to talk with people after the concert.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 Sigur Rós, Explosions in the sky, This will destroy you and Russian Circles are maybe our biggest influences. In their creations, they have all created stunning intensity, lots of emotions and beautiful melodies.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

🎤 During one concert my delay pedal goes crazy, nothing sounds as usual it was so weird to play our songs without the right sound. One time we decided to record our live concert with three cameras, at the end of the concert we realized that all the cameras have recorded nothing. Bad luck with technology.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 I think it’s 🎵 “56 Seasons Between Our Live”, it the opening song when we play live, each part of this song blows my mind away when I play it.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 Damien our drummer is an outstanding cook; he makes homemade burgers that are awesome J.

Closing things out, what is flyingdeadman currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 We’re working on the songs we used to play live to be ready when we will be authorized to go back on stage. We also have started to compose the upcoming EP that will be released in one or two years.

Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
