“Fire the Humans is a culmination of anthem-sized hooks, raspy vocals dancing with soul, and melodically flowing lyrics wrapped in the depth of content.” ‘Fire,’ Fire the Humans! In response to our first burning question, the artist adds, “[We are] the favorite, best-kept secret in your musical playlist.” We get the inside scoop on the musician’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. Fire The Humans was first interviewed on The Musical Hype in 2021 (Interview 227). Three years later, he returns for another engaging Q&A: Getting to Know… Fire the Humans: Interview No. 429!
For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Fire the Humans distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?
Fire the Humans is a culmination of anthem-sized hooks, raspy vocals dancing with soul, and melodically flowing lyrics wrapped in the depth of content. Fire the Humans is the favorite, best-kept secret in your musical playlist. The artist that your friends say.. ‘who is this!?’
Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Fire the Humans form, and what were some of your goals or visions early?
Always a singer/songwriter in bands and projects, I never had my own ‘solo project’ to really reflect my own personal sound and responsibility. I wanted something very different from what I had done in the past but a sound that really showcased the writing and feel of what I wanted to say. In a band, you’re a spoke on a wheel that contributes to a collective. As a ‘solo artist’ you carry it all. Good, bad, and the ugly. The vision was always to write a great song. Songs with depth, but relatable, and yet you cannot get them out of your head. These are songs that I personally would want to hear.
Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or perspectives changed since starting? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?
Goals and perspectives have certainly changed as life progresses. A better understanding of the meaning of one’s artwork … and most importantly, the zero fucks given if people approve or not. It’s art, some will see the beauty, some will not.
Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?
I’d like to think that if Prince and Rival Sons had a baby, they’d name it Fire the Humans. Both artists are unique, real, honest, and unapologetic for cutting their own path. That inspires me. I’ve always respected that from these two artists.
Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.
One time my band at the time, was filming a Miller Light commercial, live on stage in front of a crowd. As I was flailing about on stage, I dropped onto the floor and started acting a fool, and my guitarist at the time didn’t see me behind him and stepped backwards and right onto my face. Breaking my sunglasses. The show kept going, but I saw people in the front row gasp. Lol
To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?
“CLEVER” is the new single that drops on October 31st, 2024, and I believe it’s incredible. The song is special because it was inspired by a comment my son made. He mentioned how dating is harder nowadays because of the revolving door in the game of love on social media. How when a girl posts a picture of herself, she no longer needs your attention alone. That void is filled with hundreds of people that compliment her and hundreds of guys waiting to take your place. Yet, now some girls understand they have countless options and play the game.
Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about …? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?
I have a new puppy and I’m not sleeping. 🙂
What is Fire the Humans currently working on or promoting that you can share? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.
