G-Eazy "Stan By Me" [Photo Credit: RCA]Rapper turned singer G-Eazy is more accessible on his second ‘vocal’ single, “Stan By Me,” set to appear on his album, Everything’s Strange Here.

G-Eazy is now a singer – at least that’s what he shown on a couple of singles from 2020, heading into his new album, Everything’s Strange Here. The first surprise was single “Free Porn Cheap Drugs”, which arrived May 22, 2020.  Quite the ‘vibe’ (there’s no other way to put it), the accompanying music video clip was also – wait for it – a vibe.  Eazy continues to sing on “Stan By Me,” which is definitely hookier than “Free Porn Cheap Drugs.”

While the use of profanity doesn’t necessarily characterize or define an artist, it was unusual to hear G-Eazy eschew being potty mouthed for once.  No worries, “Stan By Me” brings back the f-bomb – at least on the pre-chorus:

“You are the one I dream about
You’re the one I can’t live without
I want your love, I don’t want the clout
There’s nothing else I give a fuck about.”

Also, he’s focused on a favorite topic – women.  That said, he’s a ‘stan’ for this particular woman, which is certainly a more monogamous stance for Eazy.  The chorus is simple, but tuneful and ultimately, quite effective, with a post-chorus emphasizing his ‘stan’ status.  After stanning for three lines, guess what ‘stan’ changes to? “Baby, I’ma stand by (You-ooh-ooh).” Besides the catchiest sections of “Stan By Me,” the verses are colorful, and certainly more in line of what’s expected of Eazy, with a reference to OnlyFans on the first verse, and tripping acid on both verses.

Final Thoughts

Marshmello gives G-Eazy a pretty cool backdrop on “Stan By Me” that has a much poppier sound compared to “Free Porn Cheap Drugs.” Between the two singles, while “Free Porn Cheap Drugs” is artsier perhaps, “Stan By Me” is more commercial. It’s still a bit different to hear Eazy singing as opposed to dropping straight bars, but, again, give him credit for mixing things up.
