For Under Consent of the King: 5ive Songs No. 78 (2022) [📷: Brent Faulkner, Clovis Cheminot, Leo Chimenem, The Musical Hype, OpenClipart-Vectors, Pixabay]In the 78th edition of 5ive Songs (2022), we select five songs that are associated with For Under Consent of the King (aka, the f-bomb) in some form or fashion.

Welcome to 5ive Songs, where we keep things short and sweet – no extra calories or needless fluff! There’s a theme/topic, five songs, and a short blurb.  Yes, it’s a playlist, but it’s a miniature playlist that shouldn’t take much time to consume.  In the 78th edition of 5ive Songs (2022), we select five songs that are associated with For Under Consent of the King (aka, the f-bomb) in some form or fashion.  Okay, let’s get into it!

1. Drake, “I Guess It’s Fuck Me”

💿 Her Loss • 🏷 OVO / Republic • 📅 2022

Drake & 21 Savage, Her Loss [📷: OVO]“You left so abruptly / I guess it’s fuck me…” 🎙 Drake concludes his joint album with 🎙 21 Savage (💿 Her Loss) with a bang – rather, a bomb! That’s right, Drizzy goes all for under consent of the king with the 16th track, 🎵 “I Guess It’s Fuck Me.” It would not be the first time the 🏆 Grammy-winning rapper used the f-bomb in a song title.  Look back to his 💿 Certified Lover Boy when he mentioned 🎵 “Fucking Fans”, woo!

“Tell me, what did I do wrong?

Before it’s over

I need you to come over once again

And before you give me closure

Need you to come a little bit closer.”

“I Guess It’s Fuck Me” is an intriguing closer. Drake is true to self, employing an emotional, mostly melodic tinged approached.  Besides singing the chorus, he raps the sole verse.  Even with its un-pitched moments, the verse feels melodic too. The production (🎛 The Loud Pack) is a huge selling point on this heartache-fueled gem, including warm keys and synths.  Drake has no shortage of standout lines, including “Shit could make a thug cry, play it like a tough guy.”

2. Demi Lovato, “HOLY FVCK”

💿 HOLY FVCK • 🏷 Island • 📅 2022

Demi Lovato, HOLY FVCK [📷: Island]“I’ll bring you to life / I’m a holy fuck, I’m a holy fuck (Fuck).” Holy fizzuck, 🎙 Demi Lovato! Obviously, when the name of the album is 💿 HOLY FVCK, you must prepare your virgin ears to be deflowered by f-bombs.  Also, it is only fitting that there should be a title track. 🎵 “HOLY FVCK” arrives as the fifth track on HOLY FVCK, and it sounds idiomatic of a hard rock record.  The lyrics are sinful, referencing spiritual things, though often in an evil, blasphemous context (“‘Cause my body’s the communion / Take a bite of what I’m doing”).  This is intentional and part of the brilliance of this title track.  And HOLY F#¢K, what about those jagged, robust guitars 🤟!

3. Ryan Mack, “Sad Fuck”

🎵 “Sad Fuck” • 🏷 Ryan Mack • 📅 2021

Ryan Mack, "Sad Fuck" [📷: Ryan Mack]“I’m a sad fuck / Self sabotage and I mess things up / Always in my feelings and my head too much, yeah/ But I don’t always wanna be a sad fuck.” Wow – that’s quite a self-characterization 🎙 Ryan Mack (Ryan McLoughlin)!  McLoughlin and 🎛 GETH produce the short, fucking sad🎵 “Sad Fuck”.  It’s worth noting that Urban Dictionary describes a sad fuck in various ways including a “A person who is universally considered to be both a complete prick and a pitiful loser” and a “depressed kid.” In the context of this sad song, Mack seems to fit the bill of depressed kid perfectly, though, he’s not a kid…

Anyways, the Irish musician does a great job of capturing coping with depression.  Essentially, he paints a picture of having “Bad nights,” “doing well, but I get overwhelmed,” and falling into the rabbit hole of sorts “as soon as I compare myself to everybody else.” In the first verse, he aspires for happiness though it’s not easily attained.  The second verse is intriguing as well, as McLoughlin makes a stellar point about ‘things’: “Ain’t it funny how they think I’m fine? / Just ‘cause I got everything they see online.” It’s true – fame and material things aren’t equivalent to happiness.

4. Latto, “FTCU” (Ft. GloRilla & Gangsta Boo)

🎵 “FTCU” • 🏷 Streamcut / RCA • 🗓 2022

Latto, “FTCU” [📷: Streamcut / RCA]“Man, I’m the VIP, I done walked straight past you hoes / Bitch you ain’t see me?” As you figure out early on the female-helmed rap banger 🎵 “FTCU”, it is an acronym for fuck the club up.  Grammy-nominated rapper 🎙 Latto taps 🎙 GloRilla and 🎙 Gangsta Boo for the assist. Although the club fucking up lasts just under two-and-a-half-minutes, these ladies make quite the impression. It all begins with hard-hitting, minor-key production (🎛 d.a. got that dope). Gangsta Boo doesn’t get her own verse, but she performs the intro and echoes Latto during the gives no fucks chorus.

“Fuck the club up (Fuck the club up)

Fuck the club up (Fuck the club up)

I might stand up on your shit and fuck a dub up (Bitch)

Fuck the club up (Fuck the club up)

Fuck the club up (Fuck the club up)

I might go off in your shit, you tryna mug us (Bitch).”

Holy $hi†! Unapologetic rhymes by Latto kicks things off with a bang. Her flow kicks ass in both the chorus and the first verse (“Hottest in my city, bitch, me and these diamonds hit / Bet’ not run up Big Latto, give no fuck about no image”). GloRilla takes the second verse.  Her interesting vocal timbre contrasts the higher-pitched Latto.  Where there is no contrast is the unapologetic nature: “Four cars full of shooters just in case they try to follow me (Huh?) / Keep them pistols in the party, we don’t go by policies.” All told, Latto, GloRilla, and Gangsta Boo put in work on “FTCU.” It is safe to say, they have, indeed, fucked the club up!

5. Wheeler Walker Jr., “Fucked by a Country Boy”

💿 Sex, Drugs & Country Music🏷 Pepper Hill / Thirty Tigers • 🗓 2022

Wheeler Walker Jr., Sex, Drugs & Country Music [📷: Pepper Hill / Thirty Tigers]“Trade that dick up in the penthouse / For some cock down in the hen house.” Oh, brother! First and foremost, it’s important to take 🎙 Wheeler Walker Jr. with a grain of salt.  The comedic country musician is known for being crude, outlandish, and totally over the top.  On 🎵 “Fucked by a Country Boy”, from his 2022 album, 💿 Sex, Drugs & Country Music, he’s unapologetic AF. An incredible sexual record, a lyric like, “But have you ever been smashed / To some old school Conway Twitty” is tame…

“Have you ever been fucked, fucked, fucked by a country boy?

Rammed, rammed, rammed by a redneck?

Spread, spread, spread by an inbred

Who’s kinda got your daddy’s voice?”

Yeah… what can you really say to that chorus? The second half isn’t much better than the fu¢king, ramming, and spreading that Walker Jr. asks about.  The thing is, it’s satirical – not meant to be taken seriously.  Still, lyrics like “Fly down the map and lemme show your flap / Some home-cooked southern-fried meat / We’ll fuck you like family” are, well, disturbing AF.
