In the 38th edition of Head 🗣️ 2 Head 🗣️ (2022), Elvis Presley and Haley Reinhart contend for the best rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
Welcome to Head 2 Head! On Head 🗣️ 2 Head 🗣️, we pit at least two musicians singing the same song together, comparing their performances. Then, after much deliberation, we deliver a verdict of which performance was the best, or at least, subjectively, which performance moved us more. In the 38th edition of head 🗣️2 head 🗣️ (2022), 🎙 Elvis Presley and 🎙 Haley Reinhart contend for the best rendition of 🎵 “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. So, without further ado, let the Head 2 Head commence!
1. Elvis Presley, “Can’t Help Falling in Love”
💿 Blue Hawaii • 🏷 Sony Music Entertainment • 📅 1961
“Wise men say / ‘Only fools rush in’ / But I can’t help / Falling in love with you.” ‘The King,’ 🎙 Elvis Presley, has a catalog chocked-full of musical gems. One of his best of the best is 🎵 “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” “Can’t Help Falling in Love” appears as the fifth track on 💿 Blue Hawaii. It’s worth noting that Blue Hawaii was also a film. It’s safe to say that “Can’t Help Falling in Love” is far more than a soundtrack cut. This magical, timeless classic was written by 🎼 ✍ David George Weiss, Hugo Perretti, and Luigi Creatore.
Everything about “Can’t Help Falling in Love” is awesome… LITERALLY. The arrangement and production are relatively simple but sufficient. The drum groove is uncomplicated yet perfect. A background encompassing guitar, piano, upright bass, and background vocals perfectly fuels the fire of Elvis. Of course, Elvis didn’t need fueling – he was automatic. His vocals are commanding, refined, and tender, simultaneously. His tone is ‘once in a lifetime’ – buttery smooth. He sings hopeless romantic, love-driven lyrics with the utmost authenticity. Listening makes you appreciate the love you have or wish to attain the love of which he speaks. A 60-plus-year-old song, in Presley’s hands, “Can’t Help Falling in Love” never feels or sounds old.
2. Haley Reinhart, “Can’t Help Falling in Love”
💿 Better • 🏷 red dot / ole Media Management L.P • 📅 2016
Among the most beautiful songs of all time is the classic, 🎵 “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. The most famous rendition is by the one and only 🎙 Elvis Presley. To reiterate, Presley recorded it in 1961 for his 💿 Blue Hawaii album (also, a film). Many, many others, however, have tackled this utterly sublime musical selection, including former American Idol contestant, 🎙 Haley Reinhart. Reinhart covers “Can’t Help Falling in Love” on her 2016 LP, 💿 Better. It’s safe to say that all should feel better after hearing her terrific take.
During her American Idol season, Reinhart possessed one of the most beautiful and distinct voices. That distinct instrument shines like a diamond on “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” A simple record, for the most part, Reinhart keeps things simple too. She’s accompanied by piano, which is perfect – nothing more needed. Vocally, she’s composed and poised, never over-singing. She pushes more when it feels right, but never overdoes or overpowers. Her balanced, polished take feels incredibly authentic as she makes this old song feel brand-spanking new.

The Verdict 👨🏿⚖️
Elvis Presley or Haley Reinhart? Reinhart, like many others who have covered 🎵 “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, does a nice job. Still, all told, there’s only one version that earns the definitive badge, and that, my friends, belongs to the King. There was, and there will only ever be, one Elvis Presley. This is one of his greatest hits, and I don’t believe anyone has yet to usurp the King!
