Floridian alternative singer/songwriter Dominic Fike returns with “Ant Pile,” the second single from his highly anticipated sophomore LP, Sunburn.
“Y“ou looked at me different / (In the middle of, in the middle of) / And held me like you missed me…” Aww 🥰, the feels! After 🎵 “Dancing In The Courthouse”, the talented Floridian 🎙 Dominic Fike returns with his second single of 2023, 🎵 “Ant Pile”. “Ant Pile” also serves as the second single of his highly anticipated sophomore LP, 💿 Sunburn (arrives July 7, 2023). Written by Fike and 🎼 ✍ Julian Cruz, the brief two-minute and change joint is produced by Fike, Cruz, 🎛 Henry Kwapis, Jim-E Stack, and Devin Workman. As is always the case with Fike’s music, “Ant Pile” exemplifies an alternative sound and sounds quite distinct and unique. There’s a mix of styles, essentially.
Fike recollects on love. This love begins early on – first grade to be precise. This is where the title, “Ant Pile” comes from. In the first verse, Fike asserts, “First grade (First grade) / Somebody tied you to an ant pile / And that wasn’t even the worst day / Back then you knew I always liked you…” The relationship evolves, including the universal three-letter word (“Said let’s get home before your mom does”). Throughout four verses, the memories are vivid, with the final verse yielding more memorable moments: “I’ve seen you fall to pieces / Seen you completely naked / There’s no more ways you can surprise me.” True – nudity bares it all! Is 🎵 “Ant Pile” a lyrical masterpiece? Nah, that would be an overstatement. Is it the second coming. That’s also a nah, but it is interesting, as Fike’s music tends to be. He sings, he raps – serves up a bit of everything. Worth listening to? By all means.
