Demi Lovato, Tell Me You Love Me © Island / HollywoodDemi Lovato continues to slay on “You Don’t Do It for Me Anymore,” the third single released ahead of ‘Tell Me You Love Me.’

Demi Lovato has been on a hot streak as of late. After alluring us with the unapologetic “Sorry Not Sorry,” the big-voiced pop star announced her new album, Tell Me You Love Me.  At the same time, she dropped a second incredible single, “Tell Me You Love Me.” Back with a third single, Lovato puts her heart and soul into “You Don’t Do It for Me Anymore.”

On “You Don’t Do It for Me Anymore,” Lovato opts for balladry. The best attribute is naturally her voice, which is stunning.  On the verse, she showcases her low register, before ascending to her powerful, cutting upper register on the chorus.  As always, Lovato is clearly in command, never fighting with the production work for the spotlight. Her best vocal moment is the final chorus of the song, when she peaks on a high A-flat.

Speaking of the production, it’s sound, but less ornate than previous singles “Sorry Not Sorry” and “Tell Me You Love Me.” That’s not a bad thing, as the M.O. seems to be this personal, confessional slow jam.  As aforementioned, Lovato doesn’t need anything more to fuel her fire than herself.  That said, one nitpicky con is the lack of some backing, choral vocals. As much of a punch as “You Don’t Do It for Me Anymore” packs, it may have been even more rousing and emotional with even more support beyond the lead vocals.

Final Thoughts

Yet again, Demi Lovato slays. There was never any doubt, honestly. She makes a powerful statement with “You Don’t Do It for Me Anymore.” This is the third consistent, enjoyable single ahead of Tell Me You Love Me.  Does it beat “Sorry Not Sorry” or the title track? It’s a matter of personal preference. My heart still lies with “Tell Me You Love Me,” but I’m captivated by the strength of “You Don’t Do It for Me Anymore” as well.
