Listening to her stunning rendition of āThe Long and Winding Roadā on Day 28 of the 30-Day Song Challenge, thereāll never be another Aretha Franklin.Ā
Embracing the trendiness of social media, The Musical Hype unleashes its own, month-long version of the 30-Day Song Challenge.
Day 28 Prompt: A song by an artist whose voice you love
Aretha Franklin is one of my absolute favorite musicians of all-time. Her voice ā nothing short of amazing, angelic, anointed, heaven-sent ā you catch my drift! Because Day 28 of the 30-Day Song Challenge requires me to select a song by an artist whose voice I love, I went with āThe Queen of Soul.ā I was incredibly saddened when the āRespectā icon passed away in 2018 at the age of 76.Ā
With such a rich catalogue of music, interestingly, some of Franklinsās best songs are actually covers.Ā Of course, Franklin could sing absolutely any- and everything, so, thatās not surprising when you consider her vocal gifts.
She made her 1972 cover of The Beatlesā classic, āThe Long and Winding Road,ā truly her own. While The Beatles own the definitive version, Franklin adds mad deep, southern soul, completely transforming it.Ā Itās one of many gems on an album filled with awesome covers, Young, Gifted and Black (1972).Ā āThe Long and Winding Roadā previously appeared on my āin remembranceā playlist, 10 Favorite Soul Classics by Aretha Franklin.
