English R&B/soul singer-songwriter Daley drops a bomb soundtrack for the bedroom with his soulful, purple single, “Lavender.”
“Lavender” commences with gorgeous, lush, orchestral strings. The strings set the romantic tone and vibe. After the strings do their thing, a soulful, contemporary R&B groove settles in. Both the beat and the bass provide a mighty anchor. The song’s form is relatively straightforward: Verse / Pre-chorus / Chorus / Verse / Chorus. Daley sounds buttery smooth, never over-singing during the first verse, excerpted earlier. The pre-chorus that follows, only occurs once, where Gareth asserts, “There are new colors that appear / When you’re hear with me.” Aww! While the pre-chorus prefaces the chorus sublimely, it is the chorus that is the crème de la crème:
“Lay down your defenses
Let go your pretenses
Give me all your senses
And I’ll make you feel
Lavender, lavender
Lavender, lavender.”
In the second verse, Daley sings with more oomph, showing off his ripe upper register. “Here in the purple light,” he sings, “We’re so much more than black and white, yeah.” Yeah, indeed! That falsetto pops something fierce. During the second chorus, his ad-libs, riffs, and runs are celestial. Ultimately, if you need a song that soundtracks the bedroom with your significant other, look no further than “Lavender”. Daley does that! And as he says, “So let go your inhibitions here / And show me everything.” Indeed!
