DaBaby, "Find My Way" [Photo Credit: Interscope]DaBaby continues to ‘ride the wave’ on “Find My Way,” his short but moderately entertaining second single of 2020.

When there is a wave to ride, you ride it! That seems to be the philosophy of “Suge” hitmaker DaBaby who shows no signs of slowing down.  In 2019, he released two hit albums – Baby on Baby and KIRK.  Already, prior to dropping the song at hand, “Find My Way,” he’d made fart noises on “SHUT UP” – And I totally shit you not! Anyways, the rapper is true to self on “Find My Way.” What does that mean?

As usual, DaBaby shows off his agile flow which is jam-packed with lyrics.  If he were to rap slower with fewer words, I think we’d all be shocked.  Interestingly, he raps over a backdrop where ‘urban guitar’ leads the charge.  This is a bit, un-DaBaby like… No worries, “Find My Way” is still anchored by a punchy, trunk rattling, southern rap beat, but against a gentler production overall.  Of course, with this production in a rap song, the first thing that comes to mind is sex.  Yep, that’s exactly what he raps about, asserting on the second verse, “Ooh, I let her ride again / She spread her legs and open up, I end up slidin’ in…” He does veer away from the universal three letter word temporarily, but for the most part, ‘it’s goin’ down.’

Final Thoughts

So, does DaBaby deliver another hit? Eh, “Find My Way” is okay, but not on the same level as “Suge,” let alone ‘the second coming.’  His best attributes are working here – flow and personality – but “Find My Way” isn’t game changing or groundbreaking in the least.  He gets a decent chorus, I suppose, as long as you’re not totally annoyed or offended by his selfishness and of course, objectification: “I fuck with her to ease my mind, ‘cause I been in my feelings” or “And I’m sittin’ here with the car in park while she ride dick to my song.” Some’ll eat it up, others will be more meh.
