Cole Swindell, Reason to Drink [Photo Credit: Warner Music Nashville]Country musician Cole Swindell outlines some pretty good reasons for everybody to drink on his infectious fourth single of 2018, “Reason to Drink.”

According to Georgia country singer Cole Swindell, “We all got a reason to drink.” “Reason to Drink” marks Swindell’s fourth single of 2018 following “Break Up in the End”, “Somebody’s Been Drinkin’”, and “The Ones Who Got Me Here”.  Given the fact that this is his second single that involves alcoholic consumption, it seems that he enjoys his fair share of beers.  It goes with territory of country music, of course.

From the start, “Reason to Drink” is chocked-full of energy, with its heavy guitars and exuberant major key.  There’s just the sense that this record was made for Cole Swindell.  He definitely lives up to the expectations, even if the topic of drinking is cliché.  He probably makes it even more cliché on the intro: “Oh yeah / This sounds like a Friday night / Yeah.” Oh yeah it’s hella corny, but what follows is infectious enough.

On the verses he sets up the occasion for drinking.  On the first verse, he speaks for everybody, singing, “We’re all in our own little, getting’ right situation…/ We got everything we need, we gonna be alright.”  Obviously, everything is beer.  On the second verse, he’s more descriptive of what’s going down, including a group of girls doing shots, guys enamored, and a checklist of fun… Hmm.  ‘The arrival’ occurs on the chorus, which justifies drinking.  Swindell sings enthusiastically:

“‘Cause somebody somewhere’s getting’ married today / And somebody’s home team, they just won state / And some old boy’s girl just left him / If that’s you, raise your hand, I got your next one.”

Final Thoughts

Unsurprisingly, it’s easy to get pretty wasted off of “Reason to Drink.”  That’s a good thing for Cole Swindell though.  He doesn’t cover new territory – drinking is cliché to the nth degree in country music, let alone most genres – but he does drinking well.  It’s the personality and the voice that pays dividends for this incredibly likable country singer.
