Coldplay, Music of the Spheres [๐Ÿ“ท: Parlophone]Alternative collective Coldplay and K-Pop superstars BTS successfully collaborate on the entertaining, โ€˜universalโ€™ single, โ€œMy Universe.โ€

L

ike so many โ€˜rockโ€™ bands (alternative rock included), ๐ŸŽ™ Coldplay has embraced pop, period.ย  Following ๐Ÿ’ฟ Viva La Vida or Death to All His Friends, the band incorporated more synths and programming.ย  Purists cry foul, while I understand, though donโ€™t always get as enthusiastic about the ๐Ÿ† Grammy-winning collective. Nonetheless, as singles suggest, ๐Ÿ’ฟ Music of the Spheres is set to be an enjoyable alternative POP album.ย  The band got off to a roaring start with ๐ŸŽต โ€œHigher Powerโ€ and go even โ€˜higherโ€™ by collaborating with the band with the biggest army of fans, ๐ŸŽ™ BTS on ๐ŸŽต โ€œMy Universeโ€.

So, Coldplay and BTS? Let that sink in.ย  This is a collaboration you shouldnโ€™t expect to work in the least but โ€œMy Universeโ€ is successful, undoubtedly!ย  From the production end of things, the sound is incredibly slick.ย  Thank the production team thatโ€™s comprised of ๐ŸŽ› Bill Rahko, ๐ŸŽ› Max Martin, and ๐ŸŽ› Oscar Holter.ย  This is a bright, energetic, and warm โ€˜universalโ€™ experience! In addition to the production, those three are credited as writes alongside Coldplay (๐ŸŽ™ ๐ŸŽผโœ Chris Martin, ๐ŸŽ™ ๐ŸŽผโœ Guy Berryman, ๐ŸŽ™ ๐ŸŽผโœ Jonny Buckland, and ๐ŸŽ™ ๐ŸŽผโœ Will Champion) and select members of BTS (๐ŸŽ™ ๐ŸŽผโœ j-hope, ๐ŸŽ™ ๐ŸŽผโœ RM, and ๐ŸŽ™ ๐ŸŽผโœ SUGA). Is the writing so good it required a million writers? Thatโ€™s debatable, but the results are positive, particularly on the simple but gargantuan chorus (โ€œYou, you are my universe / And I, just want to put you firstโ€).ย  The chorus sums up what Chris Martin and the respective members of BTS (๐ŸŽ™ Jung Kook, RM, ๐ŸŽ™ Jimin, ๐ŸŽ™ Jin, j-hope, and SUGA) sing (or rap) on their respective verses and bridge.

Final Thoughts ๐Ÿ’ญ

Bitmoji ImageShould a Coldplay x BTS collaboration work? No, but just to reiterate, IT DOES! After listening just one time, youโ€™ll find yourself moving and singing along to this infectious POP record.ย  No, itโ€™s not like the Coldplay of old (it fits BTS best, of course), but the entertainment value is high.
