Alt-pop collective COIN delivers a second alluring single from 2018 with “Cemetery,” which also marks their second single from their forthcoming, 2019 LP.
“Warm blood, cold heart / Yeah, he’s all alone / He had it all, but it couldn’t buy love / Yeah, head died alone.” Hmm, there definitely seems to be a lesson within this particular record! Alt-pop band COIN returns once more, following “Simple Romance” with “Cemetery,” the second single from the collective’s upcoming third studio album, due in 2019. Once more, Ryan Winnen, Chase Lawrence, Zach Dyke, and Joe Memmel impress on his record which explores the topics encompassing love, loneliness, work, and the limited appeal of wealth (tied in with greed) in the big scheme of things.
Like “Simple Romance” that preceded it, “Cemetery” has ample goodness to offer. The record commences with a brief, but mysterious introduction, making you ask yourself, ‘where is the band going with this?’ A couple seconds in, that clarity arrives, as “Cemetery” settles into a foot-tapping groove, adorned with respectable production. That production includes sweet guitars, bass, and of course, vocals. Chase Lawrence remains on-point vocally, particularly on the chorus where he maintains his poise and cool as he dabbles in his upper register. The chorus is where Chase and the band make the premise of the song the most clear:
“Never made time for the family
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
Only made time for the company
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
He is the richest man in the cemetery
But he is the richest man in the cemetery.”
Final Thoughts
As previously stated about COIN, if you haven’t taken the time to check out the alternative pop collective, you’re totally missing out. “Cemetery” is yet another superb advance single. Like “Simple Romance,” boxes are checked off: Awesome vocals, sound production, and well-rounded songwriting. Once again, if it is an alt-pop band you need in your life, choose COIN – you won’t be disappointed in the least.
