he vibes, the vibes, those Throwback Vibez 🕶️🎶! Throwback Vibez 🕶️🎶 is a column that celebrates awesome songs from the past.  The records that grace Throwback Vibez 🕶️🎶 are older, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re ancient – no fossils 🦴! All genres of music are welcome – we don’t discriminate ‘round here! On the 3rd edition of Throwback Vibez 🕶️🎶, we recollect and reflect on 🎵 “A Couple of Forevers”, performed by 🎙 Chrisette Michele

Sometimes, one questionable choice can end a brilliant career.  That’s what happened to 🏆 Grammy-winning R&B artist 🎙 Chrisette Michele.  The choice she made was to sing at one of President Trump’s inaugural balls.  That’s a no-no.  And before Trump fans and stans come for me, let me explain. The reason why this was a poor choice for Michele is because her fan base – the R&B fan base – is predominately black.  Most of the black electorate voted against the 45th POTUS and were heavy on resistance anything celebrating him.  The fact that Michele ‘embraced’ him by performing for him alienated her fan base, effectively ending her career.  It’s a shame because you listen to an old-school sounding, classy gem like 🎵 “A Couple of Forevers” and you say to yourself – Chrisette why, why did you f**k screw yourself over? For Trump?

tears of joy“A Couple of Forevers” arrived in the 2010s, so it’s a young, Throwback Vibez 🕶️🎶 entry.  Despite its youth, it sounds like a lush, soulful throwback to the 1970s. The record is laden with soul crafted by a thoughtful sample of 🎙 The O’Jays’ 🎵 “Stairway to Heaven”. On “A Couple of Forevers,” the relaxed, lush production work allows for Michele to spoil us with her vocal ‘goodness’ to the nth degree.  She has one of the most distinct voices you’ll ever hear, characterized by its classy, refined, and nuanced nature.  Sure, sometimes these ‘distinct-voiced’ singers don’t appeal to everyone, but as for me, I love unique vocal timbres! Anyways, anchored by a top-notch chorus, Ms. Michele has us right in the ‘palm of her hand.’ Heartfelt and sincere, you’ll surely desire to spin it forever and beyond.

“Just a couple of forevers
A couple of forevers
I’m the only one, you’re the only one
Together till never
I’m talking my forever
Just a couple of forevers
I’m the only one, you’re the only one
Together till never.”

Final Thoughts 💭

Bitmoji ImageSigh, as I listen to my favorite Chrisette Michele song, with all those killer vibes, again, I find myself angry at how she f**ked screwed up her career.  That said, she probably feels the same way post-Trump inaugural balls.  I don’t like the choice she made but I can’t deny her immense talent. People have done worse, right?
